If I use the Report Post button is it gonna end up at the admins of onewhiskey? 'Cause I don't want that to happen, I want the Report to land at Proboards. I think it's something they should prevent from happening. If not people will look for another board to use.

There's nothing Proboards can do - these aren't bots, they're people creating accounts (usually round Indonesia way, usually for a pittance) so they get around the usual checks. Best thing to do in the absence of regular admin staff is to give someone who's here more often powers to delete them as they crop up.

If Proboards cannot deny access to random people, they should put the word 'kitchen' on the black list. Who's gonna use the word kitchen on a music board anyway! Haha

Blacklisting/censoring words on ProBoards is tricky, and can require more work than just deleting the thread - not worked on Pb5, but older versions just give you the option of replacing or removing the word, not censor an entire post. If it could, you then have the issue of accidentally removing all sorts of posts/threads/people because of a word that the computer thinks is similar... It's easier and less time-consuming to just delete the threads, or just contribute to existing/create new "proper" threads to push them off the front page.
EDIT: Just been on the Proboards forums to see what they suggest, and they're riddled with them too. Only practical suggestions are a) IP Banning; and b) Pre-vetted registration, which means that new signups will have to be vetted manually before they can post.
Problems with both of these are a) Depending on how you enter the terms for the ban, you will affect either nobody at all or hundreds of people in one go, most of whom will be banned for no reason; and b) If the mods haven't the spare time to remove the threads, they certainly don't have the time to do this one...

Lanegan should put out a cook book. onewhiskey.proboards.com/thread/1298/cookbook-heavy-whiskersHa! Please see the above thread! As I recall (I haven't reread the thread), a "heavy whisker" can refer to one of many things: 1) A regular member of the forum (ie. a onewhisker) 2) Someone skilled at whisking. With a whisk. 3) Beard growth. I'm almost through Movember! (Going to reread that thread after I post this!)

Every time I have a few minutes to get on the board, this is what I get to do. Ban tons of new people, because when I look at who joined you can see who the spammers are. So then I do that, and I'm out of time to read posts.
If I lived anywhere near where this business was I would seriously vandalize/throw rocks through windows. That's the equivalent of what they're doing here.

Oh - the biggest thing is, PLEASE DO NOT ever click on their ads/links! I can't imagine these kind of dicks would continue if they weren't getting a single thing off it. So somebody on some board somewhere must be giving them enough traffic that they still think it's the way to go.

If I lived anywhere near where this business was I would seriously vandalize/throw rocks through windows. That's the equivalent of what they're doing here. Sadly, the people who do the posting are across the poorer parts of the Far East (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia etc), and are paid a pittance (about $1 per 100) for the "adverts" they place on messageboards, as it's cheaper than actually paying for a proper one. They're generally the same sort of sweatshop/unregulated (either by means of conditions or age) labour who "like" your Facebook pages for anyone stupid enough to pay to promote one. Sadder still, as these people are paid by each post placed, they have a little database among themselves of open boards where they can register and post easily so they can watch that precious dollar roll right in - of course, nobody here would be mad enough to click on one, but there are plenty of others (generally where the elderly converse) where they think they're on a bargain and lose at least a non-refundable £250 deposit to aggressive salesmen, or even more on shoddy cabinets. Because if it didn't make someone, somewhere a lot of money, then someone, somewhere wouldn't be paying peasants to advertise for them. As for the company who pay these people to do this, they are based in Oldham (UK), and have fallen foul of Trading Standards so many times it's beyond parody - the main boss is currently banned from serving as a Director, but his various family members act in his stead every time he gets convicted. As for smashing his windows, he's had his house burned down twice already so you're not alone on that score

Ah, now I see a chance to ask this question... Is there a chance you're willing to make this a members only forum, raeni?

The problem is that they DO sign up and become members before they post. I think the only way to stop it is to have to approve members first. So if you came here and signed up, someone would have to review your details and choose whether or not to allow you to join. I'm not opposed to doing that - it's just that I know my visits are too infrequent, and people would end up waiting for a month to get onto the forum, which tends to piss people off.

Oh yes I understand they sign up. But what I meant was that they have more exposure on an open board than on a more closed one, thus more potential for clicks(/hits whatever). But I wouldn't know of course, just a thought..

I notice now that there is an ad banner "bitstrip style" for the removal of ads from your boards (for a paid fee I'm assuming)...so is it proboards paying these people to be so annoying in the hopes of generating ad revenue?

The adverts that proboards are paid to remove/not display for a couple of weeks are the ones at the top & bottom of every page here as well as the "stories from around the web", and are paid for by actual advertisers (usually via google). The kitchen ones are member-generated as forum messages and no amount of throwing cash at pB will shift them (otherwise their own tech boards wouldn't be riddled with them).
