May be a long shot but James Lavelle is creating this years meltdown at the Southbank; www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whatson/festivals-series/james-lavelles-meltdown-2014He's worked with Mark before and I pretty sure it was him at the Union Chapel and Islington gigs recently in a burgundy hat and black baseball jacket. Massive Attack are sure to play, fingers crossed for an appearance from Mark if his (hectic) schedule allows. The only problem is tickets are always a nightmare to get hold of.

Oh, yes, interesting thought. Yes, it can sometimes be difficult getting tickets for Meltdown but it really depends on which venue people are in, for instance, this year Patti Smith tickets were rarely then hen's teeth but that was because she was in the Purcell Room. It's usually OK with the Festival Hall or QEH. I've also found it's worthwhile turning up on the day (if you can get there easily) as there are often guest tickets that haven't been taken up.

I was right :-) Just got an email from the Southbank confirming Mark for the festival...
"Mark Lanegan plays his only 2014 European date exclusively for Meltdown. "
Tickets for members from April 1st for general purchase April 3rd

I guess by saying '...his only 2014 European date exclusively for Meltdown', they mean it's a solo show? Because there are three 'Band' shows the next month. Not that I'll see any of the shows, I'm just curious.

It's a solo date and says it will be the only UK date. Anyway am firmly seated in row B so happy! Plus it's easy to get to and the acoustics are good. Once might be enough for 2014, felt like a bit of a stalker last year.

This is a seated venue? I'm still not sure I wanna make a trip to London just for this show but if it's a seated venue, I'll make up my mind very easyly, no way I wanna see Lanegan in a full band while seating...

I'm more into seated venues if it's a solo show, more into standing if it's a full band, but usually I adapt to the situation, I don't give up the idea of going to a show for that. But if I must travel a lot, I prefer the gig to be perfect for sure, so I understand you, Bibi. But that one is solo so...

And you're not....this from the Southbank site
The alternative rock collaborator par excellence performs an acoustic set in his only UK show of 2014.
Former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan's rich baritone has graced work by artists as diverse as Queens of the Stone Age, Moby and James Lavelle's UNKLE, over the past thirty years.
He performs an acoustic set of songs from his storied career in contemporary music.

When was that? I checked a few times, but didn't see anything. It went live today at 9.55 and all the front stalls were gone, save for the wheelchair spaces. Thought that was a bit odd.
Those wheelchair spaces did eventually sell out, but I'm wondering if they actually went to those in need.

I gave up with the Southbank website after it kept kicking me out. Fortunately I looked on Ticketmaster and got row C in stalls, so pretty happy about that.

Kinda ridiculous they had their own pool of tickets, though. I'll have to take solace in not giving them my business.
