Yeah, Torn Red Heart is amazing - how much you like it maybe depends on how much you like a certain other song. Quite surprised at how only one review so far has picked up on how weird Seventh Day is, although I guess by the time it gets to that song, the listener's ready for anything

You could mention the other song. If you don't want to completely give it away hints are always welcome.

I could be really evil here and say that I mentioned 'the other song' in another thread 2 weeks ago With any luck, my own review will be permitted to be published on Monday, so my own clumsy comparisons and half-baked opinions will be available to all

---------------------------------------SPOILER -------------------------------------------------
My album review song by song:
- Harvest Home 4/5 .....................everyone here knows it. - Judgement Time 4.5/5 ..............much better than the live version. Stripped-down arrangements: a classic tradeMARK - Floor of the Ocean 4/5 ..............as would sound Mark in the 1980s. Electronic textures and disco rhythms - The Killing Season 2.5/5 ...........too catchy and cheerful beats - Seventh Day 2/5 .......................not for me - I Am the Wolf 3.5/5 ..................another piece of black pudding, sir? - Torn Red Heart 5/5 ...................bring to mind the My bloody Valentine sound more gentle. You can't stop crying.... - Waltzing in Blue 4.5/5...............if you want hear Layne Staley sing on trip hop breakbeats - The Wild People 4/5 .................Mark in the old way. Have you listened to Whiskey For The Holy Ghost? - Death Trip to Tulsa 5/5 ............Bubblegum flavor, thanks God!

This album is getting very favourable reviews. Both the Guardian and Independent very positive. Better buy my tickets for Shepherds Bush before it sells out!

Seventh Day is amazing. I do prefer the live version of I am the Wolf to the album but Judgement time is brilliant either way.
Torn Red Heart isn't the tear jerker it was made out to be. Maybe lyric wise but the music doesn't reflect it enough for me. Judgement time is more moving to me. Great song anyway.
I said it last time and I'll say it again, Lanegan gets better and better. I hope he continues exploring this avenue for a while.

Seventh Day and Torn Red Heart are not at all what I was expecting, but both are outstanding. Waltzing In Blue is another highlight. Is someone harmonizing with Mark on that one or are the vocals double/triple tracked? My guess would be the latter. Can definitely relate to the AIC vibe someone already mentioned.
Still letting Killing Season grow, hasn't really grabbed me yet. Studio version of Wild People is as great as I was hoping for and Death Trip is bad ass. Judgement Time is going to be a classic, it's vintage Mark all the way. I was never really blown away by I Am The Wolf to begin with, but those who dig it will probably like the studio version.

Yesterday i was like, "Wut" and today i'm like, "wow". It's quite brilliant. I Am The Wolf, Judgement Time and Death Trip to Tulsa being clear standouts for me personally. I'm also really digging this electronic sound. I think it suits him. Waltzing in Blue is one i can't seem to stop listening to.

My 'Phantom Radio' CD arrived today.
Have given it a couple of plays through (had steered clear of streams, so was my first time hearing it).
Stand-outs for me so far are 'Torn Red Heart', 'Death Trip To Tulsa', 'The Wild People' and 'Harvest Home'.
I think 'Judgment Time' sounds better on the CD than the live version, though I think I lean towards the live version of 'I Am The Wold', over the one found here.
'Killing Season' isn't doing too much for me yet, but I'm only a couple of listens in, so it may grow on me.

I got my deluxe CD today, very nice packaging and a lyric booklet too.
Great album, not quite as good as Blues Funeral but a great continuation.

It's been getting some great professional reviews but I'm not so far overwhelmed. I really don't like Judgement Time. There a few scarily off -key moments and thematically it's a bit old hat.
So far like The Wild People best.

I'm loving nearly the whole thing. I was worried since I didn't connect well with the EP, but I think this is a miniature masterpiece. There are only a few songs that are in the "regularly skip" category and I'm still drinking in the rest.

Phantom Radio was waiting for me on my door step after work so I cracked open a beer and couldn't get to the turntable fast enough. After the first listen, I'm not blown away like I was with Blues Funeral and Bubblegum but I think this one's a grower. Harvest Home and Death Trip to Tulsa are my early standouts while Seventh Day had me scratching my head a bit. Time to give this another spin!

I like this a lot better after two listens than the last two records - Imitations and Black Pudding. I also liked No Bells on Sunday, which is on the second disc of the deluxe version here in the UK.
Its not the same as Blues Funeral, but I don't want a record that sounds like outtakes from a previous album.
Overall, I'm happy and looking forward to seeing him again in Glasgow early next year. :-)
