Waltzing in Blue is my favorite. The music prompts visual memories in me. I keep seeing my Grandfather's 1950's black and white tv and old newscasts interspersed with static, among other images. It's a little spooky and I've never had any song evoke visual memories before. It's completely mesmerizing.
Love it.

I have to say that I was kind of disappointed at first. I really dig Blues Funeral for the new electronic direction Mark took. Ode To Sad Disco, Harborview Hospital and Grey Goes Black are still my favorites song so far. After a few listen, I did not hear this vibe in Phantom Radio and there was something in Mark's voice that kind of bothered me. After a few more listen, it begins to grow in me. Some arrangements are brilliant. Mark's voice still sounds a bit weird (Floor of the Ocean, The Killing Season) but overall this is again a great album and I really dig Seventh Day, The Wild People. I just regret that he did not add 1 or 2 raw rock songs like Harvest Home to it.

I was waiting for my vinyl to arrive, but couldn't wait any longer -- I just finished streaming it. I do not have words enough for how much I love this album. "Torn Red Heart", "Waltzing in Blue", and "Death Ride to Tulsa" were the standouts to me, but honestly, every song is a gem. I can't believe that Lanegan just keeps putting out better and better albums! I can see how it's a pretty big sonic jump but beautiful music is beautiful music, right?

I just regret that he did not add 1 or 2 raw rock songs like Harvest Home to it. I absolutely love this album but I also wish there was another faster rock song to go with Harvest Home and Death Trip. I'm really curious as to how these songs are going to sound live. Since it's a fairly short album I wouldn't mind if the bulk of it got played, along with some No Bells on Sunday songs.

I love the way that they use the pic of another album to illustrate their review of this one

Wow the vinyl sounds really good compared to the digital version I'd been listening to!
Interesting to notice that Duke Garwood doesn't appear on the album despite co-writing I am The Wolf. Also interesting to note Matk Lanegan plays acoustic guitar on what was already my favorite track, The Wild People!

It took me some spins, but now I'm happily surprised as I didn't expect all that much. When I first heard Seventh Day it gave me the creeps, but now I looove it, I buy the happy unintended creepy weirdiness hehe. Although now it's not creepy anymore. Everytime I hear this song it puts a big smile on my face Some songs end up being songs you skip and others with which you turn up the volume. This song definately is of the last category. Torn Red Heart sounds to me as a mixture between Atmosphere of Joy Division and Running to Stand Still of U2. It took me some days to figure that out. Atmosphere immediately popped to mind, but it was still itching, so finally I thought of U2 and Running to Stand Still. The farewell atmosphere and at the same time: I'm going nowhere Running to Stand Still. Two absolute brilliant songs, especially Athmosphere, that's a masterpiece. I wouldn't touch it and Torn Red Heart never reach that level, but nonetheless I love Torn Red Heart. When I read Waltzing in Blue, I thought of Waltzinblack of The Stranglers, definitely not Waltzinblack haha, I love this song and so I love The Killing Season and Death Trip in Tulsa. These are my faves. I Am the Wolf and Judgement Time seem too easy, they sound like (mediocre, in case of Judgement Time) copies from Black Pudding. One last thing his singing(voice)... Is it me or does he sing less controlled sometimes or maybe the other way around: that he puts too much effort in sounding controlled? Maybe it happens because he's stretching his vocal range (which can only be welcomed/appreciated)?
