I'm putting together a compilation disc of various Mark Lanegan songs for a friend... but there's so much material I'm having trouble deciding which tracks to include. So I'm looking for suggestions that'll make for a nice assortment of Lanegan for the first-time listener.

^^Yea, last one in the world is a great song, IMO. The music reminds me somewhat of an acoustic stairway to heaven. Sad song, but a great one at that off an amazing album.
I'm no good at mix tapes because I hate choosing favorites. But I would say the Winding Ghost has a solid listing of good career spanning ML jams.

Should put in some covers as well, She's Not For You for one, great song, and Josephine is one of my favorite Lanegan songs.

ooooh i have a mix lanegan cd that just found its way back into my cd player again. if you're interested, tracklisting of mine is: one way street sleep with me low lexington slow down when your number isn't up pill hill serenade pendulum no easy action untitled lullaby wedding dress last one in the world i'll take care of you don't forget me stay morning glory wine el sol field song creeping coastline skeletal history carry home hotel out of nowhere message to mine if i did a new one, yes, josephine would be on it ;D i have another compilation one with the collaboration stuff i like. i'd probably make a different selection now, there's a few songs that i feel very different about at different times - i have no idea why at certain times i can absolutely dislike them and at others fall in love with them (shilo town, bell black ocean, judas touch and wild flowers, well, all of the winding sheet in all honesty)
