front street i am a bit shocked as its dulli singing and i am feeling myself slowly creeping towards liking his voice. what on earth is happening to me??? All misery is close though. I don't know much about music at all but i love the off beat whatsit thingie. I have no idea what to call it, but i mean the off beat whatsit thingie. you know?

Don't know about "best" - it seems odd to me to compare a track like "Circle the Fringes" to a track like "Who Will Lead Us?" and say which is "better," because they're simply different sorts of songs. As for my favorite, though, it's a hard choice, but I'm going with "Bete Noire." Could have easily been a Lanegan solo track, but it wouldn't have been nearly as good without the contributions of all the other musicians involved. Love the guitar bits and the Rhodes line that trundles through the song. And of all the lyrics on Saturnalia, I can relate to BN's the most, almost uncannily so--that song could be the soundtrack of the past three or four years of my life. I even named the nasty bit of my own psyche "the Beast" about a year ago, envisioning it as some sort of hellish creature tracking closely behind me, before I was aware that terms like "bete noir" and "black dog" had already been established in the lexicon to refer to something similar.

Front Street is the reason this album was made.
People to use, lovers to break, handful of pills,no life to take, river too cold, oven too high, bridge of one hundred and fifty foot drop.

I voted for "The Body" cuz I thought it needed some lovin'.... I feel like a traitor for picking a Dulli song over, say, Seven Stories, but with repeated listens I like it more and more.
I want to know who the hell voted for Who Will Lead Us, and why.

^^I didn't vote for Who Will Lead Us, but I think it's definitely one of the best tracks on the album, easily, IMO.

I want to know who the hell voted for Who Will Lead Us, and why. ive gone for Who Will Lead Us, and i'll tell you why, m'dear. because the hi-hat intro turns me on like it's a Curtis Mayfield hi-hat. i keep expecting it to break into 'Superfly' everytime it starts. and that is obviously a good thing. anytime you play rhodes piano on anything, it sounds more soulful. at 1:30 when the solo/break comes in, it sounds just like something on The Winding Sheet, and the guitars (acoustic and electric) remind me of Mike Johnson guitars. generally though, it's because i like the texture of Mark's voice on it. he's on top form. i love the almost-broken delicacy of his delivery. great lyrical theme too. (Seven Stories is about equal for me, but everyone has voted for it, so Who Will Lead Us gets my nod)
