...today I went to see Hero with Jet Li, it is subtitled but even that can't take away from this film, it's absolutely fabulous. The story itself appears relatively simple, a nameless hero has succeeded in despatching 3 assassins from a neighbouring kingdom who posed a threat to his King and his plans. Our hero appears at the palace and relates the story of how he succeeded in destroying the assassins and after that it starts to get complicated as multiple narratives are related, the king tells the hero what he actually thinks happened and the nameless hero in turn relates a little more of the story. Each segment of the story has it's own colour code which makes it easy to follow. One of the subplots is the love story between Broken Sword & Flying Snow which is painfully beautiful.
Visually, this film is breathtaking in terms of colour, scenery and fight choreography, it's a film you could just watch to look at it and ignore the story completely.
If you decide to go, bring your tissues, you may need them.

I saw Hero but definitely prefer Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. If I'm correct, I always thought CTHD was released first and felt that Hero was a freakish rip-off (no offence). Like the fact that both movies put so much emphasis on the swordfighting-calligraphy comparison.. Even the score sounded very alike. The story in Hero was weird and overly complicated..
I'll stick to my CTHD dvd. The story is much better, very realistic and not so confusing. The relationship between Li Mu Bai & Yu Shu Yien is worked out so well. A forbidden love, cus of their immense sense of honour. The music is absolutely mesmerising and I don't even have to tell you guys about the Bamboo-forrest, do I?

Hero and CTHD are similar in that they have the same producer, composer and a couple of cast members, but that's about it - CTHD came out about a year before Hero, but it's not much of a ripoff as China has been throwing out these sort of films for a couple of decades now (have a gander at The Bride With teh White Hair, Butterfly and Sword or Zu: Warriors of the Magic mountain for older versions of teh same sort of guff). The story in Hero is a bit odd (it's a remake of an old film but with added "See, you don't want freedom for the masses, totalitarianism's where it's at me old mucker" thrown in for good measure), not helped by Miramax's insistence that the film had to be re-edited by the director in order to make it a bit more Western-friendly (ie, cut out all the talky, plot-explainy bits). Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a fantastic film, but I've always preferred Hero out of the two - just for the bits with Tony Leung and Maggie Zhou in it (I highly recommend In the Mood for Love starring these 2)

Didn't John Alderton do some of them, or was that just teh Little Misses? I been watching cartoons this evening, although Ebichu the Housekeeping Hamster (much as it sounds as if indeed it should be) isn't exactly one for the little ones... I am also about to begin watching Babycart at the River Styx, which has lady ninjas in it. Looking forward to this one...

I've got a disc somewhere with a few episodes ('bout 12) of some Japanese thing called Ippatsu Kikimusume where sciency-stuff is explained by some scantily-clad cartoon women which is really educational. There's a couple of eps of Sexy Commando on there as well *searches frantically* And there's also this slice of fried quality entertainment that I got free from some bloke in Hong Kong:

Battle Royale is ace (the novel is even better). Battle Royale II is a big stinky mess.
And if you liked The Eye, check out the following: A Tale of Two Sisters Dark Water Kairo (one of my fave scary films of all time)

i rediscovered The Fox And The Hound the other day.
a forgotten classic.
overshadowed by the likes of Bambi, but superior in terms of acting... mickey rooney? kurt russell? what more could you need?
definitely recommended.
and some excellent songs that i would recommend for ML's 'andy williams-esque' album... 'Goodbye may seem Forever'... i could go on. i wont though.

[glow=red,2,300]apart from Human Highway. directed by Neil Young.
Starring - Devo, Dennis Hopper, Neil Young and Dean Stockwell (from Quantum Leap)...
fantastico!
hurrah! [/glow]

Mark should lend his voice to some shady character in the next Disney/Pixar movie. He'd be a perfect villain with that low raspy voice of his.
And then, to appease the mokkly's of the world, Mark's character could break out into song in the middle of whatever cartoon shenanigans he gets into.
