Launch Radio Networks is reporting that QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE played a surprise show at the Viper Room in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (Feb. 8). The group's 40-minute, ten-song set featured three tunes from their upcoming album, "Lullabies To Paralyze", including "Little Sister", "Burn The Witch", and "The Long Slow Goodbye", as well as selections from previous records. Drummer Joey Castillo said about the secret gig, "The idea came up a week or so ago. We actually asked our booker to kind of set something up and we didn't want to know where or when. We were actually kept in the dark up until about a day before."
A representative from the group's record label told Launch the bass player for the performance was Dan Druff. An online search listed Druff as a guitar technician who has worked on albums by the DISTILLERS, SUM 41 and POWERMAN 5000, among others.
Although QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE has not officially replaced longtime bassist Nick Oliveri, who was dismissed a year ago, the label representative said, "I believe (Druff) is the new guy."
Celebrities spotted at the Viper Room gig included INCUBUS frontman Brandon Boyd, A PERFECT CIRCLE and NINE INCH NAILS bassist Jeordie White, and DISTILLERS vocalist Brody Dalle, who is also dating QUEENS singer and guitarist Josh Homme.
"Lullabies To Paralyze" arrives in stores on March 22. The band starts a North American tour one week earlier, on March 15 in Austin, Texas.

No, membership is not required. Its a bar. If something cool is happening onstage, you have to get there early, be on a list or know someone, or you'll be spending most of the night on the sidewalk waiting.

i usually know about these things, not that i'm too cool or i know the band or anything, but a very good friend works with the band at interscope. and he didn't know. so that means, no one knew. except for brody and probably gwen stefani or some shit. whatever. and yes, the only membership requirement in the viper room club is that you have to stand a minimum of two hours outside waiting on the sidewalk, but that can also be good because the sidewalk is basically backstage.
