Alright fella's and fellarette's!
Ok, so then....I was reading posts on here about a little known band called the 'Twilight Singers' and was thinking you were all talking pap about some shitty band that you all had to rave about just because Mr Lanegan guested on one of the albums.....however, I recently purchased 'Blackberry Belle' and I do actually like it.....quite alot.....it sounds very nice with all the percussion....so much percussion......it did take me at least 3 listens to start to get anywhere with it.....i guess good things come to those who wait eh?
Anyway, what is the latest CD like...please give me your opinions before I go and pay my hard earned cash!

I'm glad you like "Blackberry Belle". Next time I go shopping I will pick up the latest album "She Loves You". From what I've read, it's an album of covers Dulli makes his own. "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" is on there and I can tell you he did an amazing job with that song, I have the EP. It's beautiful. I'm sure the album is worth getting. If you want to read some reviews on it check out www.guttertwins.com

Anyone who has seen the Twilight Singers live will know just how much they love playing covers, and this collection is a fantastic example of this. As a sampler, they put out a single recently featuring Too Tough to Die (Martina Topley-Bird) and Hard Time Killing Floor (Skip James, featuring Mark on backing vocals - who also appears on several other tracks). They also did a gig recently in LA as Uptown Lights, although the 2nd gig planned for this month has been cancelled as the guys are about to go straight back into the studio to record their 5th album (the 2nd - Amber Lights - which was canned due to the untimely death of Ted Demme, is also due out imminently as a limited release, as well as a planned She Loves You vol.2). Aaaand, from their blog posted last night:

If you're into the Twilight Singers, you must eventually get the Afghan Whigs' Black Love. It's a brilliant record.

i enjoyed Twilight, and Blackberry Belle a great deal, but aside from a few select songs, i'm not that fussed on She Loves You. i wish they had put the cover of Cloudbursting on it, i think it would have definitely added to the album.
something about the production on it sounds a bit off to me, (as qualified a sound technician as i'm not) as if the CD had been burned from low bitrate mp3s. it's not nearly as atmospheric and brooding as BB with the big dramatic choruses, which is probably due to the fact that the songs aren't Dulli's despite his unquestionable effect on them.
i'd say it's my least favourite Whigs or TS release that i've heard.

experiencing the twilight singers to the fullest extent possible requires that one see them live.
no record they have made captures the brilliance which is the twilight singers live.
i mean FUCK, the lead singer has a custom-welded drink holder on his mike stand. what else do you need for ultimate rock glory?

yeah, the twilight singers at the stick would be real nice.......you would think he would have played there by now, what with his fascination with motown and all.......
but apparently no love to the 3 and a third from lanegan or dulli. motherfuckers.

Yeah, well if he actually brought his ass to Detroit maybe I could. don't let something petty like geography stop you.

I'm not chasing after him, he better come here if he knows what's good for him. If not, oh well. I might do something like that for Lanegan on the other hand...or maybe not.
