Hi there,
I'm working on sme sort of translation of 'Message to Mine' for a university-course. (English->German)
And I got two questions:
Who does 'message to Mine refer to? Is it a message to himself or to ... dunno ... some relatives?
And, what's this 'with my outfit, full set to deliver' sentence. Any ideas what this image stands for?
Thanksalot

someone said they thought this song was about drugs or something, but i was more inclined to think it was about touring and the stresses of it; in which case the 'mine' in question would be family/friends and the 'outfit' would be the band. simplistic and naïve interpretation, perhaps. good luck on the course.

I agree. Good diagnosis.

Yeah, I thought there were some drug references aswell, but anyway, good idea (the touring-thing).
Thank you

Hey, that sounds like a reallly nice project! Once you've got it done, please share it with us, if you don't think it's too personal of a thing. I'd love to read/hear good interpretations of Lanegan's songs. Sure someone will comment on it, but forget about that!

For me anyway...I think the weird chill needs to be taken into context taking into consideration the sequence of the whole ep. 1. Meth....lets go...lets rock!! 2. Catherdral...Ooops what have I done..'I know its not my time...but I need (I'll try) to move on'...etc. 3. Clear spot...gotta run to find a....cos everythings fucked up 4. Message....I reckon he has a place to go with a woman outside his inner circle where it helps him to 'forget himself again'...touring wouldnt let him do that....he likes his double meanings anyway. 'Walk down the steps to the river' with his 'outfit full set to deliver'. Key words 'river' (cleanse) and 'deliver' (get rid of pain). 'Outfit full set'...I reckon just means his prepared himself for doing this. Send a message to mine...he's asking the almighty for a message...'flood lights blinding his eyes' and all that. 5. Lexington...wish I could slow down ...somehow?..'They say chariots are waiting' should he manage to do this ...both in life and the after life. He trys to be a spritual man and I think a lot of people skim over this. 6. Skeletal....dealing with the past...obviously 7. Wish u well....some chick wishing him well in his endeavours....who thinks his dam cool...'eyes of stone beautiful and dead'...confidence builder. 8. Sleep with me....speaks for itself. He's ready for a chick now he's dealt with his shit. I believe this ep is a bit of autobiography of his prior spell in the wilderness and the processes he dealt with when making the next transition in his life. Fucken...so so cool.

Bang Bang let me shoot it all over....ooo baby! Double meaning again though because he says he's dealing with women 'sideways in reverse...not knowing any better'. It starts of though with 'On a dead high wire where I make a connection...never knowing my shepherd never knowing my witness'.....spiritual undertone again..... lets you know that he is starting from a confused state of mind.

I like yours interpretations I want more what do you think about that line: you gotta shake shake shake as a matter of course... or that another one: it fights like a bitch and it kiks like a horse
oh that remind me Charles bukowski...Mark is so good writing

Madonna once said that its not size that counts but the wriggle behind it....he's probably saying that he does this despite the kicking and screaming like the bitch of a woman he's used to.

beg my pardon for mentioning Mad..onna. I noticed Joey was wearing one of her t-shirts in the lullabies dvd...probably in a bid to get some action....she is known to chase the limelight so good luck Joey.

Forget the above its general banter ???Yeah, Yeah....I'm the fuckwit .......you're forgiven, I don't like to interupt when someone's intent on providing their own punchlines .........so am I alone thinking that 'Here Comes that Weird Chill' is Mr Lanegan's dirty sex album? & yes, I do not that technically speaking it's not an album

It's sex on wheels baybee. Now I feel like listening to "Sleep With Me", but I'll have to wait 'til I get off work.
