Usain Bolt is the coolest man of the world Yes, yes he is. He smashed the world record--and all other competitors in the race--and he ran about 30m with his arms fanned out at his sides. A truly amazing individual.

are the olympics still going? very funny bit of controversy at the moment.. the whole world (apart from the USA) has worked out that the top 3 in the medals table are China, then USA, then Great Britain... (in this, the official ranking system, golds are worth more than silvers, and silvers worth more than bronze).. but in the US, they are now choosing the system of 'total medals won' as being the 'top of the table'. this puts the US at the top because they've won loads of lesser medals. in previous Olympic years, the US has used the official system, but China's dominance this time around has made them elect to make this subtle, but very significant change. anyway, this unofficial system also put/s Australia ahead of GB, which prompted them to reconsider the medals table that they choose to show over there - but thankfully the realised that it's a bit silly and that you could be top of that table by winning 100 bronzes and not getting anything else. Meanwhile.. GB already have their biggest medals haul in a VERY long time and there are more on the way apparently. official medals table from beijing olympics site... results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtmlCNN's slightly skewed version.. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/olympics/2008/hilarious. when you see that China have won (at last count) 42 Golds compared to the USA's 25... it makes it all look a bit silly.

no idea.
Great Britain are ruling the cycling... and we've done well areas like rowing and sailing again.
we're lacking big players in the 'proper' events... track and field has been a real struggle for us this time around.
if the USA didnt have Phelps in the swimming (a record 8 Gold medals)... i think you'd be pretty much screwed this time around.
quite a surprise.
i like the olympics. it's good to watch a bunch of random things that you' never normally watch and think 'fuck, these people have been quietly working toward this for years, dedicating all their time and efforts for this moment in the sun... and they dont get any of the recognition or money of top pro sports'.
its pretty admirable when you hear how some of them finance themselves and work so hard for it.
i like it.

well I don't get tv reception where I live, thats the main reason I don't watch, but yeah in this world of professional sports and billions of dollars it is neat to see someone bust their ass at ""synchronized swimming" for the love of whatever synchronized swimming is, even though they will probably have to get s real job at some time

It should also be pointed out that there was only 8 competing pairs in the event...
Talented as the guy is, he was only there to plug the 2012 Olympics - and his diving partner was really pissed off with this, as it's hard to have a synchronised pair when one of the pair is half the overall size of the other one, as well as not being on an equal footing ability-wise. The whole BBC attitude towards everyone featuring in the games is not to reflect on their current achievements, but to let us know that they may well be even better in 4 years' time, because that's all they sodding go on about.

I've got my fingers crossed for Martyn Rooney getting a medal in the 400m final on Thursday. He's my friend's next door neighbour, so we'll be squealing watching it (like we did today when he got through the semi-final....).

I have amended my Fantasy Football teams. Sidwell has been removed from both teams because he's bloody injured again (how he has managed this is a mystery, given that he's been sat on his arse for a year), and in goes Stiliyan Petrov into the Grauniad team, and Ashley Young in the Sky one. League positions after 1 weekend: Sky: 56,752nd Guardian: 54,202nd I expect this to improve after this week

Nice to see the Chinese judges have finally had their legs slapped about cheating"being unsighted" in the Taekwondo. Shame this didn't happen yesterday, or at any time during the boxing during the past two weeks.
And hats off to Sarah Stevenson, who is currently fighting with a buggered-up ankle, like the Karate Kid in that film whose name currently eludes me.

premiership looking a bit weird.
Villa have conceded a total of 5 in just 2 games.. having only played against Man City and STOKE.
Arsenal currently losing to Fulham.
Spurs played 2, lost 2.

What a bunch of horseshit this is
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player - too good, it turns out.
Parents of some opposing players say Jericho Scott's 40 mph fastball is too intimidating. (Douglas Healey / Associated Press) The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.
Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho's team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho's coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.
But Vidro says he didn't quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league's field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch.
"He's never hurt any one," Vidro said. "He's on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?"
The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching.
"I feel sad," he said. "I feel like it's all my fault nobody could play."
Jericho's coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league's administrators.
Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching.
"I think it's discouraging when you're telling a 9-year-old you're too good at something," said his mother, Nicole Scott. "The whole objective in life is to find something you're good at and stick with it. I'd rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner."
League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast.
"He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower," Noble said. "There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport."
Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns.
"Facing that kind of speed" is frightening for beginning players, Noble said.
League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called.
League officials say Jericho's mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down.
"I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho's mother exhibited Wednesday night," Noble said.
Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police.
League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league.
Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho's parents Monday to discuss legal options.
"You don't have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it's wrong," he said. "Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?"
