Yeah, I liked the seating too I much prefer seated gigs now days. My back aches at standing gigs, I'm getting old

The Leeds gig was great. Nice, varied setlist which included a few of his covers and collaborative works, plus Halo of Ashes which is always good to hear. Jeff, Fred and Duke make a great band as well - Jeff's guitar is quite loud but it didn't spoil anything (in fact the volume added something to some songs), and having a bassist makes such a difference to the songs. Duke is a class act.
Leeds City Varieties is such a nice venue, like going back in time (made a nice change not having to pay extortionate bar prices...).
PS Mark is rocking the handlebar 'tache again!

Really enjoyed the Leeds gig although it seemed a little sort, another two or three song would have made all the difference. The venue was amazing. I thought Jeff's guitar was maybe a touch too load but not too bad, where as Dukes guitar on the other hand was way too quite to start off with, you couldn't hear his lead on The Gravedigger's Song at all, but they got this sorted later in the gig. On Jesus' Program and Where the Twain Shall Meet probably my favorite songs of the evening.
Does anybody know what the opening act was called?

Does anybody know what the opening act was called? Wasn't it the bassist, Lyenn? I've seen him before so stayed in the bar this time (could hear him though). He's been in Mark's full touring band for the last couple of tours (although missed Leeds in 2015 through appendicitis!) and has done a few support slots as well. I suppose it makes good financial sense for Mark to use his supporting acts (Lyenn, Duke) for the main set as well. Less cost for him and they get paid a bit extra too.

That was pretty cool. The Smoke Fairies doing a few songs during Duke's set (plus Duke's daughter at the end) was a particular highlight for me

I don't think there's any maybe, Jeff's guitar was way too loud at the Union Chapel and Duke's guitar was hardly audible before the encores, which was a shame. Mark was in fine voice.

Jeff's guitar was too loud in Bristol as well. The Duke-despiser in me likes to believe it's no coincidence that his levels drown out Garwood's.

Jeff's guitar was too loud at Union Chapel. What a lovely venue it is. I much prefer seated venues if only because there seems to be an off switch applied to the tongue which is activated when bums meet seats.
The reason for Duke's popularity remains, as always, a mystery. He really does have just the one song droning on for the whole set.

Unusually, I thought his contributions to Mark's set were good, this may be because I was by that time well pissed off by the volume of Jeff's guitar. As for Duke, he does seem to just noodle about for his own set which is a shame as he clearly can play the guitar and sing a bit. I've always got the impression that he's heavily influenced by Astral Weeks, but neither the song structures or the vocals are strong enough to bear the Duke's meandering guitar. Probably works better on record, with a band, where some underlying song structure is preserved. Beats me.

Duke is fine as part of Mark's band. His playing then is delicate and restrained and works very well. It's just his solo noodling I dislikd

Each to his own I suppose, but Duke Garwood did a very good opening set for Mark last August in Odense, and his album "Heavy Love" is great. "Noodling" is not a word that enters my mind - it´s all about if you like his feel or not...and I do.
Though Mark is of course the main attraction, and I really look forward to next weeks concert in Malmö!

Here's the setlists from Tilburg yesterday (the pinkish one) and Utrecht today (the blue one). Seems like Train was a last minute addition yesterday. Both great shows, nice to hear "I'll take care of you" played live. Utrecht had better sound, but the audience in Tilburg was a lot more responsive. Attachments:

What is the significance of the number & date under his signature? Don't think I've ever seen him do that?

What is the significance of the number & date under his signature? Don't think I've ever seen him do that? That may have been done at the post-show signing to signify what date the show was. Any further word about European summer dates? And do we know if these are the same format or with the full band? I presume the latter but not really sure.

Presumably as soon as Alain's touring stint with PJ is over, they'll be back in the studio. EDIT: the Peej tour's just been extended through summer, so good news for summer show possibilities, but a bit of a squeeze on recording...
