I must say QOTSA are completely gay, I am convinced when Nick left they went to complete shite, they got no fire, they sound like polished pop bullshit, the guitars are slick sounding blink 182ish, not the sludge of Kyuss or even early Queens, there is almost no lanegan at all (which to each their own I suppose) but I think Homme is on a serious ego trip, he finds songwriters who agree with HIM instead of listening to input from equals and taking in a different side of the songwriting process, I believe Nick was the kick in the ass that kept the songs from being complete wank and now that everybody listens to him he can achieve pop stardom and complete sellout fagdom at the same time.....I got all sentimental watching old videos when they kicked supreme ass..........but then again mark and josh were both wearing earrings, so I should have seen the writing on the wall

I agree...with everything you said, and probably all the crap that passed through your head that you didn't feel like typing out as well

It annoys me when people compare QOTSA to Kyuss, too.. They were so much better. :/

QOTSA and Metallica are very similar in this way. Cliff Burton = Nick O. I cannot listen to anything after And Justice For All (I know it was without Cliff, but they must have been channeling him) and SFTD (channeling my sphincter). Nick and Mondo are playing Ozzfest this year.

One can only assume because everything post Nick-O has totally sucked hind teat. He may be be a virtuoso, but you have to give it to the guy for his sheer intensity (he can scream with the best of them) which is probably the same thing that puts off people that have to be around him so much as well. Didn't he get kicked out of his own band while on tour in Italy?
I put on those earlier cds and the energy is there. It is palatable. Now it is more of a droning that sounds almost forced and does not peak my interest one iota. If he does not reconstruct the band it will fade. He might be forced to at some point. I don't want to hear this same ol crappola.

Didn't he get kicked out of his own band while on tour in Italy? He was on his way to Pukkelpop and got kicked out somewhere on the side of a road in Germany.

sometimes albums can sneak up on you, and you begin to enjoy them more and more over time. so i dialed up some new qotsa on the ipod this morning, and gave the harry beast another listen.
my judgment......not only does the album still suck, but it sucks harder every time you listen to it. the pinnacle of suck has been achieved........and robot rock dies with it.
but......he is still a guitar god and an excellent frontman. he can pull out of it. i hope he does, cause god damn I really fucking love that band. not every painting from a master is a masterpiece.

Is it fair to say that maybe you'e all anticipating too much and you have the idea in your head that it's going to be crappola before you even had a listen.
There's a ton of music out there to enjoy so what's with the trend of not liking QOTSA around here?

"Anticipating too much" implies we are disappointed in it, when rather we don't like it at all. It's not that we had our hopes too high are were let down..

So far I'm finding Era Vulgaris to be pretty good.
It plays more like the last Desert Sessions record (in it's pop appeal), but seems to be in the mould of the first and second QotSA records. A vast improvement on LtP.
Though, lets not compare it to SftD. Cause that's a different beast entirely.
