United are lacking a couple of 'big' players. but i think it's always been like that. you've always had a squad of incredible players with hardworking stop-gaps in other places (phil neville springs to mind). still, it's err.. not quite at crisis point for you... another successful season.
Villa will struggle next term, particularly if Barry leaves. it was awful to see Martin Laursen forced into retirement as well - our season hinged and plummeted when he got injured (i hope we are well insured for him, because he was our captain and we were on course for a Champions League place when he was fit).
we need another top quality centre-back, a top quality hardworking creative midfielder...
and a serious goalscorer.
signing 31yr old Emile Heskey for £4m cos Carew was injured for a few weeks was not O'Neill's smartest move in management.
Emile Heskey - the striker who doesn't score. the 'big man up top' who falls over at the slightest touch, can't muscle people off the ball and can't head. grrrrrrrrreat. just what we needed, MO'N.

Florida defense really let Stacey Nelson down. Washington was a better team though. Had it gone to 3 games, I am not sure Florida would have been able to beat them.

With the second pick, the Seattle Mariners chose North Carolina slugger Dustin Ackley, who has batted at least .400 for three consecutive seasons.
Regarded as the best hitter available, Ackley played mostly first base for the Tar Heels, but his impressive speed makes him a candidate to switch to center field as a pro.

Michael Owen? This is a strange one. Then again, his goals to games ratio even at Newcastle is more than respectable, so fingers crossed that it's a gamble that works. The new home shirt's not great either. The big worry for us at the mo is the lack of a Number 7 to start the season at the mo - Best, Robson, Cantona, Beckham, Ronaldo... it's a frighteningly large shirt to fill.

United signed Owen? What for? Isn't he a bit old? Anyway, I like football but really hate footballers, does that make any sense? Well, Scholes is the only exception. Wimbledon final tomorrow, fingers crossed for Federer, love that guy to bits

Ah, Paul Scholes. The Ginger Wizard. Most footballers are quite easy to hate nowadays as they are overpaid primadonnas Owen's only 29 (1 year older than Samuel Eto'o who might end up costing Manchester City EU30million and £250,000 a week in wages. pfft) but he's been very injury prone during the last 6 years. It's a gamble, but a - relatively - cheap one.

Scholes used to be great. I'll never forget the goal he scored against Poland with his hand But he is about the only footballer I like. I even have an original Man U shirt with his name and number 18 and a nice picture of him hanging on my bedroom wall right next to photos of Dulli, Lanegan and Kurt Vonnegut I honestly thought Owen was older. Oh well, guess he's just as good as anybody else.

RIP Bobby Robson. Quite possibly the last Gentleman in football. There will be plenty of journalists and fans of both England & Newcastle United who hounded him in the late 80s/early 90s who should be feeling utterly ashamed of themselves this weekend. He will be sorely missed by a sport that no longer has a soul. On a brighter note, I've done my Sky Fantasy Football Team (yay for Athletico Borracho!) and already I've ballsed it up by including Stuart Downing, who's injured until December. Arses. I ask in vain if there's anyone here who fancies forming/participating in a private league

Having relatives in New England, I'm curious as to how much more hostile the sporting world would be towards the Patriots if they sign Michael Vick.
...(not that Belichick cares, really, if Vick contributes enough to the team I'm sure he couldn't give less of a rats ass what anyone thinks about him. Plus, chances are he'd be a cheap acquisition)

Hockey isn't interesting enough to most Americans. So this is the NHL's solution. Well, it worked for American football (Toss-it-and-run-around-with-it-ball? Run-Forrest-run-ball? If-you-don't-gimme-that-ball-I'ma-jump-on-yo-ass-ball?), why shouldn't it work for hockey? We are raised with the belief that the men of America love two things above all else - sports and scantily clad, (potentially) easy women. Put the two together, and you're WINNING (just like Charlie Sheen)!
