So, the article says that Barrett, Mike and JBS recorded 12 songs in 1997 but couldn't get Mark or Layne to sing.
I don't know if he will have a change of heart or not. Who knows??? Above was so special, if they do decide to do this I hope it's done really, really well.

I might ask Mark in melbourne if i get a chance about this mad season stuff... i think he'd be the only logical singer to get and it still be able to be called mad season.

its interesting how Mark could replace Layne for Mad Session, but NO ONE can replace Staley for AIC

Not fully, I do recall Mark saying something about it not feeling 'right' to do the album without Layne.
Also, the reason that the 'Disinformation' name seems to have gone away is that a conspiracy theory publishing company of the same name got all up on their ass about it.
(Also also, while I'm spouting off un-backed up information, Lee Conner has some stuff to say about the writing and touring of Dust in the Everybody Loves Our Town book. Basically "its a miracle that we finished that album and toured with it.")

I'm excited about the reissue and the thought of a live album (most likely the Moore show), way overdue in my opinion. Mark would be the only singer I'd like to have take reigns for vocals duties. I really can't imagine anyone else doing it.
Obviously Mike has been thinking about it for a while and is ready to take action, I wouldn't be surprised if he's already tried to reach out to Mark. I'm honestly not thrilled about the "guest singers" idea. We all know Mark's in the right state of mind now compared to the late 90s, I think the real question would be whether or not he has time....the guy works his ass off already!

of course i'd love to hear those songs with marks voice over it. and of course he's the first person that must be asked today, cause he always had his singing part in mad season.
the other side is, i think they asked mark before it's running around every music newspaper (well, they're a bit weird if not), so he might have said no already for a second time. and for me this is a proof that he doesn't want to sell everything and is still doing music for his feelings and not for the money. this makes the music better, respect for that! again and again!

So i managed to ask Mark about the Mad Season stuff and he did say that he may be doing some of the vocals to it... He said it wasnt stuff they recorded with him, although i took that as meaning he wasnt actually present for it and judging by the stories people have been telling it may have something to do with him not feeling up to it because of rehab. Now this is where i'm just speculating but i'm guessing maybe a few different singers and it possibly being a tribute album to layne???

Hard to say what the end result may be, but glad to hear that Mark has at least expressed a little interest. My concern would have been that he would just be too damn busy (a good thing), especially if McCready wants to get something out by the end of the year....

Here's some ideas for singers, with Mark at top of the list, imagine if he got all those guys to sing on it, that would be an awesome album! grungereport.net/?p=11580

Barrett Martin: To honor our departed brothers, Mike and I oversaw a Mad Season box set, which comes out March 12th, 2013. It contains the re-mastered Above album, the Moore concert on DVD with surround sound, and a bunch of live recordings that we never released. The most exciting stuff: three songs that Mark Lanegan wrote lyrics and sang on, songs that we started to record for the second album but never finished because of Baker’s and Layne’s deaths. One of the songs Peter Buck wrote with us, and the other two are from me and Mike. They are three of the heaviest and most beautiful songs Mad Season did, and I know Layne and Baker will love them.
