I'm coming a little out of (far?) left field with this, but I think a reinterpretation of The Dresden Dolls' "Delilah" would be fucking killer. And "Lonesome Organist Rapes Page-Turner" with Josh Homme could be hysterical. That is one version of "Lonesome Organist..." I would LOVE to hear ;D! I'm thinking "Mrs. O" or perhaps Amanda Palmer's "The Bed Song" (I think he could make that song break my heart even more than it already does). In Every Dream Home a Heartache YES!!!! Sort Sol "Let Your Fingers Do The Walking". It wouldn't be a stretch at all, but.... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGRiwLgf6no) Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers To Cross (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF3IktTk_pQ) The Knife - Marble House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhQ5TiBHVk) Charles Sheffield - It's Your Voodoo Working (that would be a (potentially) sinister groove!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peMip9C8KSc) Fever Ray - If I Had A Heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBAzlNJonO8) The Lollipops - Naked When You Come (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wka4vnYC-_k)

Dead Can Dance "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove" almost seems too obvious, but I'd still love to hear it. Yes, that would be awesome.

This is the song. Its a great song! I have never heard this song before and I have plenty of old Nirvana stuff. thanks for posting. That is a killer song. That band was really something. I think Mark could work with that but doubt he would do it other than maybe a one-off because it would be profiting on his friends demise. If he wanted to do that he would have done it long ago. Your welcome

Forgive my ignorance, but is this thread hypothetical, or has another cover album been confirmed?

Forgive my ignorance, but is this thread hypothetical, or has another cover album been confirmed? Louder Than War blog interviewed Mark last month on the 28th. And this is what he said: LTW: And are you recording with Alain Johannes again?
ML: I’ve started recording some stuff with him, but I might do a record of covers too, that’s the other thing Iíve got going on. The record of covers I’m gonna make with the same guy (Martin Feveyear) who did I’ll Take Care Of You (Mark’s previous album of covers, released on Sub Pop in 1999) as producer and as many of the same musicians as I can use.

I think the reason I enjoyed I'll Take Care of You so much is that I didn't know any of the original versions of the songs before I heard Mark's. So from my perspective, it wasn't really a cover album to me, at least not in the traditional sense where you already know most of the songs. I have since gone back and listened to the original versions of most of them, and some of Mark's interpretations surprised me. In my opinion, he made a few bad songs into good songs. Or maybe I just lack the Clairvoyance to see the good in them. Either way, I would like for this cover album to also contain mostly songs that I am unfamiliar with.

I know it will never happen but three songs I think mark would nail are Bitch by The Rolling Stones, Hey Bulldog by The Beatles and Not To Touch The Earth by The Doors. They don't fit his style but they all have so much attitude that I think they'd be a good fit. I hope he continues to experiment in different genres.

Tricky, you're in luck. He's already recorded You Will Miss Me When I Burn with Soulsavers. It's on their Broken album. It would be nice to see what he'd do with Darkness

I want to hear Mark sing a slowed down version of Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. I mean, check out the first verse and the chorus:
She was afraid to come out of the locker She was as nervous as she could be She was afraid to come out of the locker She was afraid that somebody would see One, two, three, four, tell the people what she wore
It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini That she wore for the first time today An itsy, bitsy, teentie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini So in the locker she wanted to stay Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more.
Sung slowed down with ominous backing... could be his most frightening venture ever! Spooky!

It would be cool, I think, to hear him sing "The Gnome" by Pink Floyd. His menacing, raspy deliver would surely form a nice contrast to the playfulness of the lyrics. But I'd really go crazy if he played "Idiot Prayer" by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Does the Christmas EP count? Still quivering after hearing that.
Loved the interview quote about Sinatra above; I could imagine him and Isobel on "Something Stupid".

I'd love to hear him do some Murder, Misery, and then Goodnight -type Kristin Hersh material, such as I Never Will Marry, Banks of the Ohio, Poor Ellen Smith, City of the Dead, or Waiting for the One Train.

Interesting choice! Mark singing on a song from my favourite non Lanegan album would be a treat.
