www.youtube.com/watch?v=odLaShRKIF4Amazon's " you might like this" suggested I might like this. It's by John Murry, whom I'd never hear of, from a fantastic album called The Graceless Age. I'm assuming Amazon suggested it due to the large amount of Americana/Alt Country I've bought rather than it being another song about heroin and balloons. Anyway I'm bowled over by Mark's version of Red Balloon.

Whilst it's a nice review RS might just have commented that it's "Alain Johannes' guitar" not "his". Ok I didn't know until I read the credits but I'm not paid to write reviews. Whilst Lanegan has the odd instrument credit any one who knows anything about him could not possibly jump to the conclusion it would be him playing that well.

Mine arrived today, with a lovely red balloon Will give it a spin in a bit, got a bit of work to finish off first. There's nothing quite so relaxing as a compilation to plough through in the middle of a Saturday...

It's a lovely album, marginally spoiled by the nagging thought that every song would be so much better if it were all by Lanegan and Alain. Reason to Believe, Hang on to a Dream, Carpenter and Misty Roses in particular would be perfect.

I'm really enjoying this album but definitely liking Red Balloon most. It's the only cover which isn't as our man might say"for want of a better word" using special effects. It's just relying on the beauty of the song, his voice and Alain's guitar.

I got it from the label, that was ages ago. It arrived on the Saturday before the official release date. I'd cancel the Amazon other if I were you you should be able if they haven't delivered it, and order it direct from the label. They probably get more of the price as well rather than Amazon getting its cut. It's excellent, although Red Balloon is the stand out.

I love this song. His voice sounds like this is recorded more than 20 years ago. He sounded like that at the shows at the end of The Hawk tour when he sang No Place to Fall. For sake of clarity , when he sang this song live at the end of the Hawk tour when Willy Mason, who sang it on the album and the first part of the tour, wasn't with them . Just to spare anyone else feeling the need to correct me on this because they think they know better.

I love this song. His voice sounds like this is recorded more than 20 years ago. I love his vocal cadence on this song too--with his voice is such good health I hope he performs more songs this way on future albums. His upper register really is a thing of beauty (thinking songs like Seven Stories Underground, Some Misunderstanding, Resurrection Song to name a few), even though I know his trademark is the "whiskey-soaked growl" or whatever the media call it. Blues Funeral had nice glimpses of it too (Disco, Phantasmagoria, Muddy Water).

I can't think of his name right now but wasn't that another singer? I know for sure on the album it is but not sure if lanegan sang on it live
