If there's anyone in New York - buy the record from Kim's today and get a free ticket to a secret QotSA show for this Friday. Probably also in New York

I've not had a chance to listen to it fully yet as I only got it yesterday along with the new Camera Obscura album, which I had to listen to first as was seeing them tonight, but so far liking it a lot, lot more than Era Vulgaris.

And yeah Marks "vocals" on this one make the ones on River in the Road sound like Song for the Dead ... did I make the right analogy? Totally get that analogy. It's a good album, and it's great if Homme can draw inspiration from these 'collaborations'. The way the names of various contributors were dropped in every press release seems a little misleading, however, compared to the prominent role they (well, Lanegan) have played on certain past albums. To say ...Like Clockwork features Lanegan, Elton & Reznor is a bit like hyping Rated R for featuring Rob Halford. Yes, they're in there, but they're buried deep.

To be vaguely fair, no press releases said that anyone was doing any substantial guesting other than Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor (the latter was supposed to produce the album but ended up doing his own instead - the 1st song was posted an hour or so ago). Everyone else was merely tweeted about as having "come round today", and this gets turned into "xxxx is doing all the things on the record!" which doesn't happen often with this lot. As for the analogy of Mark's contribution, at least you can hear actual words this time rather than a background rumble

Got one an hour ago, so pumped. Wish the show didn't start at 11:30 but I won't complain.

Secret show that was actually a secret for a change: they played an hour-long set in NJ's Vintage Vinyl last night.

Finally listened to the album : I love certain songs soooo much, especially I Appear Missing. The piano is beautiful. Sad for the discretion of Mark on it. 3 or 4 songs don't work for me at this time, but I'm still very happy with the album.

I Appear Missing has quickly grown into one of my favorite QOTSA songs, Josh really hit that one out of the park. If I Had A Tail is pretty bad ass, too.

The problem or me is that I Appear Missing is the only one sticking out for me so far...

The lyrics on this album are beautiful. Yeah I have to say I was really blown away by the lyrics on most of the songs, not something I usually note QOTSA for. Easily one of the best albums this year so far, IMO.

Can anyone say they would actually recognise any of the guests if they hadn't seen the credit list?

Can anyone say they would actually recognise any of the guests if they hadn't seen the credit list? Yes. If you can't hear Trent or Alex Turner your hearing is failing.

Can anyone say they would actually recognise any of the guests if they hadn't seen the credit list? I could make out Trent on Kalopsia immediately, but had to have the linear notes help me to confirm that Mark was on If I Had A Tail...same for Turner, Elton, and Oliveri.

Quite a surprise to see that he's not on Fairweather Friends - someone's doing an incredible impression of him on the "Goodbye Blue Sky" line; hope it's Elton

The bit just before it leads into "My God Is the Son" is Alex Turner singing. I could Hear Lanegan do the oohs and aahs too. Oliveri I can't really hear at all.

Yeah I kicked myself after confirming the oohs and aahs were Lanegan, you can hear him pretty well on that one. I dug that song almost immediately upon first listen. I have to admit once I found out Lanegan contributed to that track, it quickly became one of my favs (along w/ I Appear Missing) on the album and added a level of badassery to it.

The guests are definitely discreet on this album but I love it anyway (I Appear Missing is like one of the best songs in the world, and Mark isn't even on it, so that means something ;-))

I haven't the faintest idea what Trent sounds like never having knowingly heard him. And as for Alex Turner apart from one song which I'm not sure is even an Arctic Monkeys' song have never knowingly heard anything by him either.
