Listening to it as I type. MPS is quite the bouncy little thing to be honest, and the sort of thing that should be added to the touring setlist immediately, as it's one of those songs that is just screaming to be played live... Mirrored is just loveliness in a bag - brings back memories of The Winding Sheet Top stuff all round, then.

hit the city single - got it. like it. a couple of things Mud Pink Skag has a kinda QOTSAish lead guitar sound (quite synthy, might be some synth stuff in there, as it's produced by alain johannes) and even has a sound effect sample of a screeching car, quite 'rock' ... simple. rock n roll. im sure mark will LOVE the QOTSA comparison...! or maybe not... but that guitar sound is very much like something from the first Queens album. Mirrored is more acoustic, arpeggio-led stuff... very nice. good lyrics. i thought sideways in reverse could've been off the first QotSA album. perhaps they are the songs he was due to appear on but never did. perhaps not.

Mud Pink is credited as written by Mark Lanegan. i think Sideways is too, but i dont know offhand... people arent giving mark his due on this sort of thing... comparing his stuff to QOTSA is pointless in a lot of ways, since Josh was like the 'little kid' in the Trees for a while... it's the chicken and the egg. i think sideways sounds more like somethig from an SST-era Trees record...

And I am jealous. My broke ass self can't even afford a cheap CD sent from the UK right now... You'd think they could comp me a copy after the blogcritics review, darnit. Maybe once I finish off the next freelance gig.

oookay, time for me to chip in. I've been pretty snowed under with work - which meant that I couldn't make the single available for anyone to buy until Monday morning. It is available now, however, we've just gone out of stock in our warehouse of the CD single, due to the demand we've had, so currently you can only buy the 7" single. Debbi, I got your order, so it looks like whatever problems you encountered, you've managed to make it work, so that's good. As far as Beggars goes, the US office handles any Mark Lanegan release much the same way as the UK office would. There is only one person worldwide who works solely on Beggars Banquet - the rest of us office people are Beggars Group people. So although the US chose not to release this single (I'm not sure why, it could be just because the US don't release as many singles as in Europe), it isn't always the case (remember last years ep? I'm sure most people do....!) the videos should be easy enough for everyone to watch, whatever their connection - we're normally pretty good at making sure that happens, so what is the problem with them Debbi? I have dialup at home, and was able to see them okay... In the end, if there's problems with the Mail Order shop, my email is on there for people to contact me, and let me know problems. We are getting a new shop in the new year, which will stop a lot of these problems. What we currently have is a shop that's so old there's silly little problems that do occur. Most people do tend to email me though, rather than just complain to others. Quite a lot of people seem to have been able to successfully place an order for the Lanegan single since Monday though, so hopefully whatever problems existed have been fixed... fingers crossed! It's one of those annoying things we're all having to bear with, but once the new shop is open, then it'll be a thing of the past (touches wood). Ok... got to get a Lanegan email out for the Beggars list now .... no rest for me... I hope this explains everything anyway... I'm guessing this single is to tie in with the European dates, and how European radio and tv picks up on Mark pretty well (we're hooked on 6 Music, and they're playing 'Hit The City' 4-5 times a day while we're at work)... so it made sense to promote it a bit more...

Yes, I was able to order last night. The first several times I tried to order, all I got was a blank "This page can not be displayed" - not on the order page, but on the whole mail order section. Yeah, this tripped me out. The whole store was unavailable. Last night it did work.
I remember the US release of HCTWC - it was missing an entire song.
I wasn't able to really watch the Sideways in Reverse video on my computer - my connection is slow and things always 'buffer' or whatever it is - they get jerky, pause in between, etc. So yeah, with patience I can SEE the video, but it's not like really watching it. As for the Hit The City video, I didn't even know it was online anywhere. Neither of the videos appears to be getting any sort of promotion here - there appears to be no promotion here at all - has anyone even mentioned how difficult it was to get Bubblegum in the US? Yes, you could order it online from online stores, but people's local record stores were unable to get it from distributors, or they only got a few copies - I'm not making this shit up, people in key cities such as PORTLAND, OR couldn't find the damn thing. I don't know who's job that is, to distribute and promote, whether it falls on the label or someone else, but it's been really sad.
And Jo, I wasn't meaning a personal attack on you. As I said before, you're the ONLY one over there who's ever tried to be helpful. Someone at the UK office offered to send me a copy of the first single, because I posted some info he asked me to post - then it turned out he sent me the wrong info and asked me to take it down in a panic, besides which I never got the single. Someone from the US office has only ever sent me short emails asking me to post links to their site, while never answering any of my questions or even alluding to them.
I started out offering my help and trying to be nice, but no one seemed to give a shit. Someone sent my friend a boatload of stickers and crap, and when she asked if she could do anything to help prepare the venue for when Mark came to town, she was told the 'Street Team Cooridnator' had it all under control. That was patently bullshit - who is this person? Nothing was done!
I have more specific instances of screw-ups and slights that have happened in the last few months, but as you said it does no good to complain to others. it also does no good to complain to the source, either. So I guess I better stop complaining. I just wanted you to know nothing has ever been directed at you personally.
