Yep, the free download direct from the record label that made the song available for sale as a digital download less than 24 hours ago. A timely reward for the loyal fans who were desperately waiting for it and bought it... Very odd moves all round with the way this has come about. i can't actually find a way to download it for free from marklanegan.com, it's just streaming as far as I can tell. I don't think it's odd in this day and age to have free streaming audio but to download an mp3 it costs 99 cents. however, if you are correct in that you can actually download the mp3 for free from the website, even if it is only for a limited time, then you are spot on that this is odd.

Ok, walk thru - On Facebook, click on the big "play" button over the image. You should then get a refreshed image, with, along the bottom of the image, the words "Sign up to the mailing list to download :". Click on that, fill in your email, then click "Go" off to the right. Attachments:

I clicked it earlier and it expanded but went blank and nothing ever happened. Just in case anyone else had this issue, you're not alone.

I once again feel stupid that I am waiting for a physical copy in my hands before I listen to it. I only do that for a few special artists but it's so hard sometimes! I'm just glad it is being released as a 7" so hopefully I can get my paws on that before I flip out.
I haven't felt this stupid since I refused to download 'Idle Hands.' It was worth it though. Bubblegum more so.

Quarter Pounder, just go to his Facebook page and download the mp3 there. 4AD is giving it away for free as Grumpella stated earlier. Nothing to feel guilty about. I'm still gonna buy the 7" and the full length. Once you here the song you aren't gonna be able wait, I promise.

ok, i should have read my email better, i guess i was just too pumped about the free 7 inch. but i got a download link in my email with the free mp3, and this was done via the offial site.
so i am with marc, this is definetly weird timing to give it away for free at the same time it is being released to paying customers.

Thanks rsinner but I'm not holding off on downloading the song because of any moral quandry (though of course I wouldn't want to cum on the man's back, nor tell him that it is raining.. err... so to speak) I just consider Mark's music especial and it makes it even especialer if I am patient and wait until I have a real copy on my turntable rather than listen to it off an ipod. I think I'll be able to resist. If I die before the album comes out though I am going to be extremely upset.

I agree, vinyl is definately the way to go man. I am also counting down the days until the 7" and the lp are released, it's always better listening to yr favourite songs while reading the lyrics and looking at the art work etc. I however, have absolutely no self control. I envy you.

You know, I was actually anti ipod until the Gutter Twins released Adorata and then I had no choice but to give in. The joke was on me though because the piece of shit doesn't even work any more and I'm back to my records and cd's. I'm just listening to the Gravediggers Song on my laptop until I get the 7".

What really pissed me off was that after I broke down and bought Adorata on iTunes (amidst all of the claims that it was ONLY available there), I found out I could buy the mp3 of it directly from Sub Pop.

Yea, that soured me as well. Though I'm more upset when bonus songs are left off (or cut from an album like Highway Kind was cut from Broken) then only available from iTunes or Amazon (sometimes only available if you purchase the entire download.) I think the people that shell out $30 or so for a vinyl are more deserving of bonus material than someone who downloads something for $10. It particularly ticks me off since Amazon isn't available to Canadians and iTunes Canada has a limited selection. I'd buy those bonus tracks if they would let me!

Yes, and no. The song is not yet available for sale in the US - not until tomorrow, and the Facebook page is US-based. So, not only is not yet for sale here, it's also only been Monday for up to twelve and a half hours (it's still 9:30 am on the west coast). And they posted that link bright and early this morning. Yes, it sucks for the Europeans and Australians and the Canadians who figured out how to jump the gun and purchased it already, and the American early birds. And you all wasted a great deal of money - about a USD buck apeice, right? Yeah, I'm not upset at all. I think it was well worth the $2.06 USD I spent last night to get to hear it earlier rather than later.

It's bullshit, I agree. I live in Kitchener, ON, I could mail you a copy of Broken with Sunrise and Highway Kind if ya want. I think there's even a 7" with just those two tracks on it but yr gonna have to hunt for it.

Just received an e-mail saying that release has been "pushed back to the 2nd of January". All this earlier-than-expected for the physical release might rely on some misunderstanding.

Thanks for posting, mate. I'm really surprised at how long this album is, kind of unusual for Mark considering a majority of his songs seem to be around the 3.5 minute mark. IMO, this is definitely a good thing, looks like we could have some epic songs and given that it's been over 7 years since the last album, I really don't want songs that end too quickly... Edit: 500th post baby!

Congrats on your 500th post!
Anyway 54 minutes (if I added them correctly!) is a "normal" longplayer duration but compared to Bubblegum it will be 7 more minutes - NICE!
