Halfway through, and it's a nice mixture of the respectful and the radical so far, have liked every treatment so far. Really like what Greg Dulli did to I Am The Wolf, and Moon Gang's treatment of No Bells On Sunday is pretty stunning. On to disc 2 now, I know that one track on there is completely out there (you might want to look into Leyland Kirby before diving in) so am looking forward to more surprises

Really curious to hear how the Soulsavers mix of Jonas Pap turned out. The sample was...odd, but that was only 30 secs of what appears to be a longer version than the original

Yeah, it's nudging 8 minutes long! It's certainly the most radical thing on the record, and is a bit of an intense experience - groove nerds* will be able to see just how ambiently busy it is just by looking at the LP.
*I am happy to admit that this might just be me.

Anyone know if this is getting a vinyl release in the US? I haven't seen anything from Vagrant and Amazon only lists the UK/Europe version for sale.

Eh, I like it - and pretty much for all the reasons that the reviewer doesn't. When remix albums as a whole are described as "dreaded" right from the off, it looks like the mind's made up already. The thing is, remix records are supposed to be overlong and indulgent, both on the part of the remixer and the remixed as it's no longer a Mark Lanegan record, but a compilation of people doing what they want to his songs (eg, Greg Dulli's effort sounds like The Twilight Singers, Pye Corner Audio sounds like Pye Corner Audio). Not everyone will like everything on there, but most people (here, anyway) will like most of it in little chunks as it's a bloody long record to get through from start to finish, and the nature of the various artists involved make it an odd ride which is probably why it's not exactly being given the trumpeting from the high heavens prior to release. It's a bit niche, but expectedly so

Just sat here listening to the Sad Lover remix, thinking "this is all fun and glitchy, I like this". It was only after about 10 minutes I realised that there was a bit of fluff on the record that constantly knocked the needle back about 20 seconds or so. This probably illustrates the best and worst excesses of remixing in a nutshell

I'm definitely curious about this project. I know very few of the artists who have reworked those tracks but I'm willing to discover more. I'm definitely a fan of a certain strand of electronica so, for me, a remix album is more of a good idea than not. Looking forward to reading your impressions too.

The import vinyl should be here by early next week. Even though I'm on record as being less than enthused with both Bells and Phantom, I'm really interested in hearing what the various artists do with the remixes.

As far as remix albums go, it's pretty good, but i'll probably only listen to it twice. I'm glad i didn't buy the £30.00 vinyl at the show.

Rough Trade puts the postage to US for the vinyl at GBP 5, and this is from the email confirmation they sent me - "The shipping/courier charges shown are a MAXIMUM value, we will calculate the lowest rate for your package and charge accordingly." I was amazed at how cheap it was, but I've ordered other things from the UK and from Europe and I guess most sellers take a hit on the shipping, as I almost never get charged very much. did yours arrive yet grumpella? my credit card was charged $59.23 canadian on february 23 but never got a shipping notice from them. that was the cost for cd and vinyl btw.

I was kinda expecting it a lot sooner, based on when they charged me, but I guess it didn't actually ship until the release date. I was thinking, on my way home, that I might drop them a line as I never received a shipping confirmation and wasn't sure if I should have gotten it already. Ah well. Gonna put it on the turntable now.
