1xCD, 2xLP. No Bells On Sunday and Phantom Radio remixed in their entirety from what I can gather. Usually Amazon park these things up as soon as a catalogue number is announced (or earlier), Juno and Rough Trade are already taking pre-orders for the 23rd, so it looks like it's locked in - Heavenly are currently (and rightly - it's a corker) plugging Duke Garwood's debut for them, so it might be a shortish while before the full skinny on this gets put out. It certainly promises to be interesting

The album is made up of a brilliant array of remixes by artists as diverse as UNKLE, Moby, Greg Dulli and Soulsavers. Mark Lanegan says of the album: “I thought these tunes would lend themselves to remixing and that it would be interesting to hear what other artists might make of them. All the people who did remixes are musicians whose work I greatly admire.” Tracklisting 1. Death Trip To Tulsa - Mark Stewart’s exopolitix demix 2. I Am The Wolf - Greg Dulli remix 3. Spend $47 and get it within 2 days of release through Amazon, or buy it through a UK store for only about $30 including shipping and get it a week to ten days after release? Hmmmmmmmm....... Fucking US Amazon, I've ordered Afterhours cd's from Italy's Amazon because it was ridiculously cheaper than ordering the same things from US Amazon. Rough Trade it is!

I think US Amazon's price is a mistake on the vinyl at $42

I am interested in hearing this, but I do hope that this does not become the norm - I've just bought the album and now I'm buying it again! And this is more expensive that the original double cd package. How is this a good idea? Anyone know how the economics works for this - do the remixers get paid or what? If I was churlish, I might see a degree of cynicism in this and the plethora of live cds.

yeah my cynical look on this is that it is a good marketing trick. It's good for Marks wallet and good for the wallets of his friends (and exposure)... oh well I'm probably too cynical, I'll wait and see what this is like, will I buy it? I don't know. maybe one day when mý wallet will be full... one day...
Edit: Hm wait that was ugly. It's noble of him to grant his friends his stage, no maybe just fun or interesting project to do. Yep I leave it at that *big grin*

It's a nice mix of his friends and some genuinely interesting electronic artists (Pye Corner Audio in particular) and some very radical reworkings - how much anyone likes it will depend largely on how much they like the places that the songs are taken to rather than where they came from... Pricewise the CD's exactly the same as Phantom Radio was and not far from what No Bells On Sunday cost in 3 dimensions, and the double vinyl's only £2 more than the single Phantom Radio one. As a project, it's interesting and in keeping with the vibe of where Phantom Radio came from in the first place, with the New Order 12" remixes (as collected on Substance) or the Human League/League Unlimited Orchestra's Love and Dancing album. it'll be a very mixed bag, but that's what happens when 14 artists get to do their own thing without knowing what any of the others are up to.
**Quick warning for anyone buying the vinyl from overseas or who is getting anyone else to ship it out for them - as a double LP costs about £18.60 to send from the UK to anywhere outside Europe via Royal Mail (ie, more than the record'll cost to buy), I'd highly recommend anyone thinking of doing this to ask whichever store you buy from to ask to confirm the p&p costs. Some will take a hit on the shipping or will have a bulk deal, others won't.

Rough Trade puts the postage to US for the vinyl at GBP 5, and this is from the email confirmation they sent me - "The shipping/courier charges shown are a MAXIMUM value, we will calculate the lowest rate for your package and charge accordingly." I was amazed at how cheap it was, but I've ordered other things from the UK and from Europe and I guess most sellers take a hit on the shipping, as I almost never get charged very much.
