i am loving the album so far. I've not had a chance to crawl into the songs, but from these first few tries it is really pretty cool

I listened to it on Myspace and found it pretty boring... I initially felt that way too when hearing it for the first time on myspace, I mean, I liked it, but not blown away. Now, after hearing it at least 2 more times, I’m beginning to love it. ‘You Will Miss Me When I Burn’, ‘Some Misunderstanding’, ‘All the Way Down’, ‘Shadows Fall (especially)’ and ‘Pharoah’s Chariot’ are just such beautiful songs. I’m also really liking Red Ghost’s contribution of ‘By My Side’. Even ‘Unbalanced Pieces’ is really growing on me, when originally I wasn’t that in to it. For me, it was the same way with ‘INHFYF…” took more than a few listens to realize how amazing that record is.

By My Side reminds me a lot of Night Walks by Black Mountain...

Also, your opinion may change once you hear the album quality version. The quality of myspace streams sucks. As Foz has noted before, the orchestration on this album is incredible...and Mark's vocal performance is almost unreal. Best I've heard from him since the 96-98 timeframe.

Katey, i think us die hards are a tough bunch to please eh! Your opinion may change. I disliked Saturnalia from day one and hoped i would like it but i never really did (except seven stories underground). I wasn't to keen on the last soulsavers album either but it has grown on me a lot. This one i liked even from the sound clip stage and am really enjoying it, although obviously it can't compete with Whiskey or field songs. I think its the best thing Mark's put his wonderful vocal stamp on since Bubblegum and possibly even field songs but if we are all honest we are really craving a new Lanegan solo record and no side project can fill that void. I
I've personally had enough of side projects now.

Definitely agree about craving a new solo album, that's been the case for me for the past 2 years now. But I have to say I am LOVING Broken.
BTW, I heard that 'Highway Kind' is apparently available on iTunes in the UK. If anyone has heard it, please let us know how it sounds. Us folk here in states will have to beg for this one...

been really enjoying Some Misunderstanding, great guitar work in the Neil Young style, and Lanegan's voice sounds soo clean and smooth on that which makes a nice change. Although a few times when it's come on and i havent been paying attention i have thought it was One Way Conversation

Can't wait to hear it though at some point! The clip sounded really cool.

Dammit! Looks like iTunes may be the only option for this one. Too bad I don't have an account. I should really hop on that wagon I suppose. Thanks for trying, kingdomsofrain! Anyone heard this track yet?

While I have no problem with iTunes, personally, I downloaded from Datz on the 17th and the quality of the tracks is great. No problems at all. And while Americans aren't supposed to download from their site, once I'd paid with my PayPal account, the downloads were no problem.
So, yeah, just saying.
And, damn, I am loving this album. Unbalanced Pieces, All the Way Down, Pharaoh's Chariot...damn, this is good stuff.

Had a first tiny listen on myspace and so far I can't seem to get used to it. My opinion about Praying Ground can not be taken into consideration seeing as I can't listen to female vocalists without cringing a little every time. Do agree with Stephanie in the sense that the song does have an entirely different feel to it. Understandably of course because it's impossible for her to feel the exact same thing the original writer felt at the time, she's singing from her experiences and background.
I'm not expecting to hear a copy of praying ground because i think mark himself wouldn't be able to reproduce the exact same song after so many years and experiences. I'm not sure about this album yet.

I'm still trying to figure out if there is an actual American physical copy release available tomorrow in US record stores. Somebody tell me before I go on a killing spree...
Regardless of the answer, I'm still going on the aforementioned spree.

A US physical release won't be out until sometime later this year (I know, it sucks). The only way you can get a physical copy now is to order the import, which is what I did. Or if you don't want to order the import, you can download everything except Highway Kind on Amazon US tomorrow. Here's a good import link from rough trade: www.roughtrade.com/site/shop_detail.lasso?search_type=sku&sku=315847
