I had never gone to an electronic Mark solo [material] show, so I was overwhelmed, but even moreso, as it took me by surprise to hear Can't Come Down as the opening song. it just seemed to come out of nowhere and toss you into the show. I also didnt listen to the preview stream on Mojo/on-line. So aside from The Gravediggers song, I had no idea what the new songs sounded like until performed in concert. Bleeding Muddy Water is spectacular, but St. Louis Elegy and his vocalizations are haunting to the nth degree. The band was on it. For a Lanegan fan to stop and focus on who's playing the instruments because of the way theyre playing, you know theyre doing justice to his work. I had heard that Mark wasnt too happy with their performance, but the only negative I noticed is that they dragged the end of Wish you Well.

The only other thing aside from Wish You Well that i wasn't keen on in NYC was the people in the crowd yelling song requests at Mark. And the constant camera flashes. It was annoying. Mark didnt say much as opposed to the L.A show [which was only a sentence more or less, but still ]. From what i had heard, some guy got kicked out for fighting, it was a weird atmosphere. He didnt seem as happy during the NYCmeet n greet as he had during the acoustic tour m&g's last year. Then again, I did get to banter with him about songs during those, so perhaps I'm being biased? It doesnt help that I'm pretty-creepy: As always, I try to get lyrics It was cool to run into lots of Lanegan fans I've seen in different states throughout the years, but the show despite being good, left me wanting something.

No posters were sold at either shows. Four live cd recordings [fields of the departed, antwerp, union chapel, one with Isobell], the new album on vinyl and cd, and a ten inch from a UK performance were sold.
Grumpella, I cant help but feel slightly creepy in regards to following Marks U.S tours. I'll still never forget drinking coffee at the Jupiter hotel in portland at 6am, looking out my room window and seeing Mark walk through the courtyard, and see him see me see him. :\
Then there were the teddy bear photos in the cemetery last year.. At the echo, I gave him an appreciative note written on the back of a photostrip i took in NYC [the machine printed two, which I hadnt expected] for my own trip documentation; holding Blues Funeral postcards, and a close up of the Mark Lanegan 4EVEr heart.. So while I'm not stalking him, or enfatuated/in "love" with him, i still hesitate with certain things as a fan..and feel non-intentionally creepy.. I'm def. waaaay more creepy/obsessed with the other bands I follow believe it or not!

Like many, miracle, I love reading your posts! Your writing style makes it feel like the reader is there, sharing your experiences. I remember a Guardian interview with Mark and Greg where they both mentioned having had stalkers. And even in a truly creepy scenario like that, I was struck by Mark's compassion and empathy in regard to people who really crossed the line with him: www.guardian.co.uk/music/2006/dec/08/popandrock2So if Mark can be philosophical about people who have actually stalked him, I doubt he sits there thinking about how 'creepy' passionate fans are who come up to him at meet and greets after shows. Mark volunteers to greet fans, which says a lot given his notorious social reserve. The above quote indicates he understands the dynamics that produce the emotions on display, and I would imagine that most fans know what the boundaries are and respect them, and that Mark respects fans' desire to make some form of contact. I only had one very brief encounter with Mark. I was hanging out with some folks from the SFR (Scott Ford Radio) forum after a Gutter Twins show in Brooklyn to greet and chat with Scott as he had invited people to do. Mark walked past, and I could read the body language he was not looking to mingle and was trying to get out of there and back to the bus, or wherever. I felt like I had to say something, though, so I walked over, reached out my hand to shake Mark's hand and thanked him for the music that has meant so much to me for so many years. He said "Thanks" or something simple like that and that was that. The whole encounter probably lasted less than ten seconds. I mean it's hard to not want to say something to someone whose music has infused your life, but then it can be hard to come up with exactly what to say. I was glad to have had that moment, as inconsequential as it was, because I realized it was more important for me to say "thanks" than anything else.

I have the dubious honor of having been blocked TWICE from Mark's Myspace profile... So I would never judge anyone as a creepy stalker.... ;D

The first time was dumb but my fault- there was this crazy girl who drew a bunch of really innapropriate cartoon sexual scenarios between herself and Mark. And posted them on his wall or whatever it was in MySpace. Finally after a week or more they were deleted. I foolishly posted "what happened to the cartoons?" and got banned. The second time I have no idea what I did, but I also was blocked from the Twilight Singers page at the same time. The best part of it all for me was when I tried to re-add Mark after the first time and woke up to a message from him "are you going to play nice now?".... The icing on the cake was at the time I was living with a boyfriend who had met him through QOTSA and was completely unimpressed (his main impression of meeting him- "his arms are gross") while I'm having major fan girl drama.

Haha, your infraction was not so serious! He was very strict in his judgment! On the other hand, your former boyfriend would deserve the block (forever), not you.
