When the Gutter twins are playing in Belfast I'll be on holiday in Holland. When the Gutter twins are playing in Holland I'll be back in Belfast. My only chance to see them is in Belgium. Except that's the last night we'll be in the Netherlands, and my girlfriend refuses to take me because it's the last night she'll have to spend with her mother, (fair enough). But I still want to see them! Any Dutch fans passing through Oosterhout on their way to Belgium to the gig? If so. please pick me up! (I'm serious!). No joke (PM me)

I thought they were writing the album (all elements) together though. Did I miss something?

Beth Gibbons
No doubt, with Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utely behind the production. Portishead with Lanegan, yeah, nice.
Tricky
Possible overkill on the raspy, throaty vocal front, but could work.
P.W Long
yes, I know it's been done on the Soulsavers album, but it just wasn't nearly enough. See also Will Oldham.
Jeff Buckley
Well, he's dead, bollocks.
Serge Gainsbourg
Because he's great.
Bright Eyes
Specifically "Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh", so he could point out that it rips off "Pendulum".

I don't really post to the forums at all, but I'm here everyday reading them and I really wouldn't want to see it go. I voted for moderators, and can only agree with all that has already been written in this thread.
Good to see Mokkly back as well, the posts he's been writing and the discussions between Foz and him have been very enlightening and well thought out, brilliantly written too. No offence to any of the other posters, but I've really enjoyed those discussions.
10 years is a great achievement by the way, congratulations, I hope the trolls don't make you lose heart. What's that saying again, a few dicks ruin the fun for everyone?

Aww, I thought this was going to be about a new themepark - or at least "geological structures that look like Lanegan". I feel cheated.

I wish they'd sort out a Belfast gig. I don't speak about the rest of the U.K, (or Europe for that matter), but at the Twilight Singers gig here in the Limelight, Lanegan was the most warmly received when he hit the stage, particularly for the encore. Don't get me wrong, Dulli and co got a severe cheer, but the crowd lost their minds when Mark came on.

It's good to know that this thing is as good as finalised. Now all we can do is pretty much sit back and wait for a definitive release date. An e.p and a full album? Couldn't say fairer than that.

I've always read / seen how nice a fella he is, but he's still kinda intimidating in the flesh (bizarrely, in a good way!).
I had ample opportunity to speak to him at a gig in Holland. In fact if he'd arrived five minutes earlier he'd have snared me hollering away as his band ran through the soundcheck. As it was, the girlfriend and I were heading for something to eat as a car pulled up outside the venue.
" Is that Lanegan?", asked my girlfriend, looking at the passengerside of the vehicle.
"No", said I, mistakenly looking at the driverside of the vehicle. In my defence, I'm from Ireland, different sides of the road and shit.
Anyway we walk a few metres on, pull out a smoke and turn around. There's Mark staring at the two of us. Not in a bad way, we're the only people in the street.
"It is Lanegan! I told you!", exclaims my girl. "No shit!", is my only response.
So here's my chance. Should I speak to the fella? He's supposedly pretty polite and easy going. On the other hand, would I really want some random stranger approaching me in the street?
The answer was a resounding no. I gave him his space, although I don't think he'd have minded me saying hello.
Weird thing is I've never had a problem speaking to bands before. Got on well with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, shot the shit with members of Death and Massacre, and spent a night drinking with Sepultura before bringing them on a tour of Belfast the next day before their gig. But then again I was young and stupid then. Not that I'm not young now. Or stupid. Maybe just considerate. Or boring.

are all the other songs the same as the album versions? Yeah Katey, all the other tracks are the same. I was hoping they may have been even slightly different but sadly not. Let us know what you think of the tracks when you get them.

I've just heard "Mirrored" from the "Hit the City" 7" single. Great one. Are there anymore b-sides from Bubblegum? Figured that maybe there are some tracks floating around since that one was recorded with a bunch of friends and stuff... Whilst abusing Soulseek late one night I came across a collection named "Methamphetamine Blues Sessions". The tracklisting was as follows : When Your Number Isn't Up/ Hit the City/ Mirrored/ Methamphetamine Blues/ One Hundred Days/ Bombed/ For Willie John (and absent friends)/ Josephine/ Come to Me/ Message to Mine/ Wedding Dress/ Lexington Slowdown/ Skeletal History/ Blood (Crackers & Honey). I think that's the right order anyway. I can't vouch for the authenticity so if anyone has any information, do share. The two tracks in bold can soon be found (hopefully) in the download section.

Saw that advert a few times myself and it didn't sound like Lanegan, which I thought was quite odd as Lanegan wrote it. I'm pretty sure it was Eugene Kelly singing, but I may be wrong.
Hello again by the way.

As far as I'm aware :
Mark and Jeffrey Lee wrote the song together. Jeffrey Lee died. Mark recorded the song. Am I wrong?
Even if I am wrong, Christ, I'd love to hear an album written and performed by Lanegan and Jeffery Lee.

that is funny as fuck. the funniest bit isn't the 'fattest' bit, it's the 'nicest' bit! That's what I was thinking. Is Mark not a nice guy then? I didn't bother to speak to him when I had the chance, so I'm genuinely interested. T.

I've also wondered why Mark hasn't appeared on such shows. The U.K. has a show called "Later...with Jools Holland", and he's had everyone from Calexico, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Desert Sessions, Nick Cave etc. On the most recent run of the show I was really hoping MLB would appear, but the show was off-air during the second leg of the European tour so, meh.
This show would be fantastic for MLB, fuck it's starting to piss me off again now.
T.
Screaming Trees, Alice in Chains, Afghan Whigs and Johnny Cash have also appeared.

Happily amused or deeply mentally scarred?

I met Eric Clapton several times. He was frightfully nice - a great comfort to me, Eric. Because he's been through so much, hasn't he? I mean - having to play the guitar all the time - must be absolutely awful for him. Yes. Eric is... a... pathetic individual, really. Give me Ginger Rogers, or Ginger Baker - whatever the other one is. The one who went to Africa and taught the natives how to play the drums. I was arrested, with a gun, in the vicinity of Eric Clapton's apartment in L.A… well, not arrested - I was... erm... taking part in the racial violence in Los Angeles, after the Rodney King incident. I was trying to mediate, between the police and Rodders. I got to know him very well - a very nice chap, Rodney. We were having a Big Mac together, and the police blundered in to finish off a job that they hadn't completed. So I tried to mediate, by saying, 'There he is, officer!" - to try and calm things down... because, you know, one hates to see Los Angeles go up in flames unless one's got a camera running. That night was a trail of wanton destruction... many ascribed it to my near-death experience (with the eels) leaving me bereft of any hope. I like to think I mowed down as many whites as I did blacks. I mean, the Koreans did very badly out of the whole deal. Do I feel any pride? I feel nothing but pride. That's all I do feel. An empty pride. A hopeless vanity. A dreadful arrogance. A stupefyingly futile conceit. But at least it's something to hang on to. Cool and all, but Why Bother? T. How will they eat, these micro Christ's?

If the guitarist had forgotten how to play something then he deserved to be menaced, quietly or not. Strangely enough, on the KNDD studio session, a female voice can clearly be heard saying "You did fine" (or words to that effect), only to be answered by a male voice, saying "I was so fucking nervous."
Nervous about playing on the radio, or nervous of being fumed at by a disgruntled Lanegan? Who cares?

To be honest, it's only in recent weeks that I looked through the forums. I really only used the site to get news and stuff. But after reading what Gumby was saying I had to see if I could get any more info. Seems like a lot of nice people around here, so should more topics turn up that I can get involved in, I'll be there!
