Could somebody transcribe the lyrics? Thanks! I've made a start on the lyrics.......feel free to add/subtract/alter/suggest anything (my hearing really ain't as good as it used to be ) Harborview HospitalI walked by Harborview Hospital I heard the Agnus Dei Oh Sister Of Mercy I've been gone too long to say And all around this place I was a sad disgrace They're singing, they're singing Way up on the hill They're building, they're building A mystical union beautiful and still But down here in the dirt Say it doesn't hurt The devil's ascended Upon some crystal leaves(?) In the city the lightening Spreads a cloud of butterflies and fiends With a vacant stare A needle(?) flower there They're riding, they're riding Ahead(?) and down the hill They're sinking, they're sinking Into the ocean beautiful and still And yet it's hard to me ________________(?) I walked by Harborview Hospital And stopped at ____ and Jane's(?) Oh Sister Of Mercy Have I been down too far to say Are they supposed to be As sick as you and me

He sounds great and very U2-ish were the first two thoughts that came to my mind too after first listen. Was my first impression too, but I love it. It seems to have a very 80s electronica vibe to the music though Mark's voice is just so good. I'ma gonna listen to this a lot tonight. xxx I dont know what I thought but I liked it and after the 2nd listen - at the end - is it a harp or some electronic thing that sounds like one??? maybe I am totes off track but I loved the ending even more and his voice sounds so pure!

I loved that sound too. It has this crazy psychedelic vibe that is a very welcome addition. Thanks for the ongoing work on the lyrics, beyond.

U2-ish... yes, that was my first perception, especially because of the chord progressions and echo effect on the guitar. But I like it a lot nevertheless. Mark sounds great!!
I uploaded it on YouTube for those who prefer it there:

Oh Sister Of Mercy Have I been down too far to say Are they supposed to be As sick as you and me It might be "upon some crystal wings" I hear Crystal Wings too. I hear as you heard in the first verse Second verse last line I hear "YOU Say it doesn't hurt" Third verse I hear Crystal wings in the first line and the 3rd line sounds like SPLITS THE cloud of butterflies and fiends. Then it sounds like he sings I lay the flower there. Fourth verse "yet it's hard to LEAVE" but that last line has me stumped As for Jane's in the last verse, it sounds like 'dined at jane's or dived in chains or perhaps wellwater needs some sleep. nigh nigh.

the missing line might be "wealth and poverty" something along those lines or poverty might be power --? Hard to tell

Its weird to hear mark on an instrumental so different from all his previous works, at first i was "shocked".....but now I LOVE IT! I just can't imagine this song live played by a band of musicians

Agree with whoever else mentioned that Marks's voice sounds pure on it, so glad he doesn't use any kind of vocal effects on an otherwise very electric song. The music is definitely different and but also has a sense of light (beauty, if you will) to it. I wouldn't be surprised if the music itself was inspired by Dulli, it has a lighter Twilight Singers vibe...or maybe I should stop trying to put a label on it and just accept it as a very different Mark song...and the more I listen yet another very good Mark song Suspense for this album is a fucking killer...

Have to agree with many of the comments here.
Very different from what we would usually expect from a Mark Lanegan track, but very very good too.
His voice sounds excellent and I'd also agree that the song is better for it not having any additional effects added to it.

'A needle(?) flower there'
I hear this part as 'I leave a flower there'.

I am looking forward to seeing how this translates live too.
The most recent solo concerts have been largely more stripped-down affairs with a solitary guitar player as accompanyment, so hearing something like this live with his voice as the centrepiece should be something special.

"With a vacant stare...I leave a flower there." Lanegan, you're killing it again. Think my brain's gonna explode waiting for Feb. 7th.

i don't think he walked by Harborview Hostpital, I think he took the bus (sorry, can't use my headphones right now). I do know the next line is "It stopped at 9th and James" It helps to live in Seattle and know that area some.
