Hi My name is Randall Jamail and I was the producer of the recording sessions that included the songs from the movie Cook County. There we 15 songs recorded during those sessions. Also, if you are interested, I produced mark's contribution to The West Memphis 3 compilation. cool! any recollection on what other musicians participated? No Long Goodbye is really amazing!

Would it be out of order to ask the names of the other songs?

I'm very excited about this music and hope to hear more of it.

I will be happy to provide the musicians who recorded with us and the song titles but feel I must talk to Mark first and get his approval. These we very unique recording sessions and although we are the publisher and I produced them, it is really Mark's call. Hope you understand.

Wow. Thanks for the additional info Randall! So there was an entire album that got recorded as a follow-up to Field Songs. Apparently it got scrapped in favor of HCTWC/Bubblegum. Unbelievable. I found an interesting article from Rolling Stone magazine on the Onewhiskey article page which was published for the release of Bubblegum. Here is an excerpt that might explain why the Randall Jamail sessions got scrapped: And another excerpt about Meth Blues, which had been kicking around for a decade before appearing on HCTWC:

Hi, I need to clarify. These recording sessions were never intended as material for a Mark Lanegan record. These were songs that Justice Music published and I was producing these songs for that purpose. I want to be clear that these were not produced for an album that was scrapped in favor of Bubblegum. Mark and i have been friends for nearly 20 years and I was honored to be asked to produce his material and I am happy that some are being heard and enjoyed. That's it. I am happy to answer anything i can.

This may be a dumb question but do you happen to have any photo from that session you'd be authorised to share with us?

No problem. I just didn't want to mislead anyone. I think of the sessions as a unique body of work and I love the songs and how they evolved.Obviously, my hope is that more of those recordings are released one day. Smasher, Can't post any picks from those sessions...sorry. Maybe one day.

Wish-- really, really wish -- that this were being released as a complete album or soundtrack. Sounds like it would have been brilliant.
Thanks for sharing this information with us.

Zomby, thank you. I hate to tease Mark's fans but in truth, I still believe that the recordings from these sessions are among the best I ever produced and the songs Mark wrote for it still resonate deeply for me. I hope in time that he decides he wants everyone to hear them and until then I will continue to support my friend's decisions about what is best for him as an artist.

Thank you Number9. That means a lot to me. Most of the production I did on these recordings I did alone and therefore operated in a kind of vacuum. Because only some of the songs from these sessions have only recently been heard it is gratifying to know that Mark's fans approve of the work we did. Thank you again.

We can only hope that it can be released entirely at some point. At least we will hear a couple full length songs when the retrospective is released. I wonder if any of the songs from the Gun Fighting Music sessions will be on there?
