Wow. I'm pretty sure that this counts as proof that God loves me. Yep, that plus what ol' Ben Franklin said: "Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, there it enters the roots of the vines, to be changed into wine, a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy." A glass of wine and new songs by Mark Lanegan - who wouldn't believe in God after that?!

Hi, here are the production details of the recording sessions that produced the songs were included in the Cook County Movie . As I mentioned 2 of the songs from these sessions will be included on the upcoming retrospective. I am not at liberty to say at this time what 2 songs from the sessions will be included but hopefully, Light in the Attic will be releasing information soon. The dates of recording were April 14th thru April 21st 2002 . Mixed on May 7th thru 12th 2002. Remixed Sept 2nd thru 4th 2011. Musicians: Mark Lanegan - Vocals Keni Richards- Drums Mike Johnson- Guitar Steve Baily- Bass Bukka Allen- Accordion, Wurlitzer, B-3 organ Ian Moore- Guitars, Sitar, Backing Vocals Mickey Rafael- Bass Harmonica All songs written by Mark Lanegan Produced by Randall Jamail Engineered by Brian Baker Mixed by Randall Jamail and Brian Baker Recorded and Mixed at Sound Arts Studios, Houston Texas Songs Published by Justice Records, Houston Texas BMI Copyright 2012 That is quite a collection of studio heavyweights! wow, impressive. Most wouldn't expect autograph's drummer to be in a session with willie nelson's harmonica player. That is part of the beauty of Austin. Some of the greatest music ever has come from exactly these types of pairings and i dig it. Bukka is a great songwriter as well. With Mike in you keep Mark comfortable and i believe Mike brings out the best in Mark. It seems Mike has become a great communicator for Mark and he knows how to speak to other musicians in order for them to accomplish what Mark wants. I have a friend like that and he reads my mind and then translates it into something everyone else understands. It's a perfect chemistry. Mark and Mike are so good for each other and i love basically everything they have done. Randall, I just wanted to add that i appreciate you letting us in on these details. You didn't have to and its cool you did. I also think that you have the exact attitude that is attractive to musicians and people in general. It appears you kept the artist wishes and best interests close at heart and that is very respectable. I can see why y'all have been friends for 20 years. It also seems like you are trying to keep the integrity of the music in tact as well. So, for all these reasons, thanks a lot and i am going to do some research on some of your other projects.

I agree with the above post, I'm a big Mike Johnson fan, and it was very cool of Randall to come here and tell us about these recordings.
This kind of information is so good and so bad at the same time. The good is obvious, but the OCD in me wants these recordings together all at once. It will always be something in the back of my mind as something that I don't have. We should start a support group.
Even if it's a limited release, or something they sell at shows along with the live CDs, it would be really great to be able to get ahold of this some day.
And who cares if people call you alt-country, Mark? You are one of the finest talents the world has ever seen. The "critics" can suck it.

Hi Mark's music is beyond classification. I don't know what alt country is and I was part of it's supposed intentioned. I produced Willie. Waylon, Kris, Johnny, Billie Joe Shaver, Dr, John, Odetta, Supersuckers, and many others and there is one thread that is common to them all. They tell stories. That's it. Best Randall

Billy Joe Shaver has a song that a few of my friends cover. Live forever. I like the version off of unshaven. I had no idea you worked with all those artists! They all tell great stories that people can relate to. You saying Billy Joe Shaver just threw me for a loop. Wow!
I also want to say something i failed to mention in my earlier post. I totally missed mentioning Ian Moore. He was the heir apparent to SRV and an absolute genius. His guitar playing is out of this world good. I had totally forgot about him and when i referenced this post to a friend he said oh no, you didn't say a word about Ian Moore. My bad!! Ian Moore is a badass! You have a fantastic resume!!

Those guys kinda raised me. I knew them for a long time before I started producing records in 1989. Dr. John and Willie each gave me my first big breaks. Before that I had been producing jazz records which I still love. That is how I learned to mike and record authentic music...live to quarter inch jazz ensemble sessions. It has served me well since. As for Ian, he is not only a gifted guitarist , but a great song writer and singer. Above that he is generous and a true pro. Keep listening.

Hi Everyone here has been awesome. I want to be clear that the music I have been part of has not been as a result of any particular skill or taken. I have been lucky and I guess, in some way, the artists I work with feel safe enough to take a risk and paint a corner of the canvas that they haven't aimed for before and been wiling to sit with the inevitable uncertainty long enough to decide that they want to sing it. That's all. Best

Hi, As i mentioned in a post in a different group, Ipecac is releasing the all of the songs that The Cook County soundtrack song emerged from. As I said a few years ago, this might happen. Mark decided the time is right and The LP will come out Aug 21st . I hope you find something there you like. Randall
