totally off topic, but Lava, it says under your name that you are now a 'junior member' instead of a new member. how fun is that? I was wondering what it took to change catagories - actually, I guess I still don't know, but at least I know there ARE some catagories.

actually there are no 'official' confirmed North American dates yet - at least not that I am aware of. People at Beggars have said they would send me a list when dates have been confirmed, so I'm going on blind faith that they will! As soon as I get them, I will post them. I still think it's a good idea to keep your eyes on the shows people have found listed with tickets on sale, though.

Wow - I should have done this years ago - it's good for my ego!
Seriously, though, as anyone who's read my occasional snotty-assed posts from the other board knows, I am very paranoid and a control freak. I hadn't wanted a board before because we had screamingtrees.org, and, truthfully, anything on this board is basically out of my control. If people say nasty, rude things, it becomes associated with the site. And I am not talking about swear words, disagreements, or even 'negative press'.
I'm talking about the potential for personal issues being made public, for topics of discussion that are just not anyone's business - anything that is just plain hurtful or disrespectful.
Like I said, I have always tried to be respectful on the site itself. It has still been like pulling teeth to get any information to post that SHOULD be on the site, but along the way there have been people willing to help - because they know I am trying to help. I hold severe paranoia about anything that tips that balance. Plus I'm a Libra so I want everyone to be happy.
Anyhow - you guys have all been great and I like reading the posts, and hearing that fans are meeting up and going to shows together. I can only hope that the reason there will be no new board up at the new site doesn't have anything to do with the above reasons - and if it does, that there isn't a repeat of them here. /paranoid sermon

i must say that all the Mark lanegan sites (i think i know 'round 3 of them) are simply crap i mean it's like "Buy the CD" and nothin' more i think they should take the time to create ONE GOOD site..... Label sites are pretty much just there to sell the CDs. The official site - I don't honestly care what it looks like, but it should end up having good, updated info on it. If it's not kept updated, it looks like no one really cares - so why should a new visitor? I'm assuming you weren't including onewhiskey in the above...it may be crap but it has a lot of stuff on it!

Great News? The old record company putting out a best of compilation? Come on! I guess this is a bit of a rip off - using all the momentum of this phantastic solo album to release this... I am rather sure Mark wasn't involved in the project at all. Well, getting 2 new songs is great, and hopefully the release will give some impetus to someone to release some of the other material that was recorded after Dust. A fan from Poland has just sent me a rough draft of the 30 minute interview she just conducted with Mark, in person, at a show, where he does indeed confirm that he has been working on this project and on getting the other material released. I don't have the interview up as she's not finished with it, but she has promised to send me a final copy. So that, at least, is for real, even if you can never fully trust the press.

from Billboard.com:
The later years of Seattle rock act Screaming Trees will be celebrated with the upcoming compilation "Ocean of Confusion: Songs of Screaming Trees 1989-1996." Due Nov. 9 via Epic/Legacy, the 20-track set is drawn from the Trees' three Epic releases: 1991's "Uncle Anesthesia," 1993's "Sweet Oblivion" and 1996's "Dust."
"Ocean of Confusion" includes the group's biggest single, "Nearly Lost You," which peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 12 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally. Its success helped "Sweet Oblivion" reach No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
The album will boast two previously unreleased tracks, "Paperback Bible" and "Watch Pocket Blues," which were recorded between "Sweet Oblivion" and "Dust" but ultimately shelved. Trees leader Mark Lanegan is supervising every aspect of the collection, according to a label spokesperson.
The Trees played their last show in June 2000 at the opening of the Experience Music Project in Seattle. Lanegan has been the most prolific ex-member, having released six solo albums for Beggars Banquet and Sub Pop and recording/touring with Queens Of The Stone Age.
Here is the track list for "Ocean of Confusion":
"Who Lies in Darkness" "Story of Her Fate" "Alice Said" "Disappearing" "Ocean of Confusion" "Shadow of the Season" "Nearly Lost You" "Dollar Bill" "More or Less" "For Celebrations Past" "Julie Paradise" "Butterfly" "E.S.K." "Watch Pocket Blues" "Paperback Bible" "Make My Mind" "Dying Days" "Sworn and Broken" "Witness" "Traveler"

We're all supposed to be adults (kind of). If you don't like something, about the shows, the albums, whatever, please speak your mind. Someone was out of tune, lagging, just didn't fit in with the show, etc. But if possible try to leave out personal comments - either about band members or board members.
I've tried to keep onewhiskey free of personal content - it's about the music - but since this board is now associated with the site, please try to be respectful. I'm no police-person, and I don't like censorship - but do remember that ANYONE can read this board. Opinions with constructive criticism are fine, but things that make people feel attacked kind of suck.

OK, the censored words are gone - which has magically made all the words in previous posts appear as they were originally intended. The wonders of modern...computerism.

OK, I see on here where I can set the censored words, and there's a bunch of them preloaded with the lovely subsitutions we've been getting. So the question is: shall I erase them all so we can say what we want, or do I leave them because they are somewhat humorous? Censored words stay or go - show of hands, please

Hey Debbi. I think it's really cool that Mark thanked you on Bubblegum. What did you think about that? (Cause I can't even begin to imagine.) Well, I was sitting down to eat my lunch at work, opened the CD, saw the thanks. Then I got all teary-eyed, and scared the crap out of the girl I was working with who thought something must have gone horribly wrong with something at work. Then I couldn't eat my lunch at all, because I'm a silly girl and I get that way. But all that means I was happy about it!

Oh - and please remember, when emailing me, put Lanegan or review or something obvious in the subject line of your email! If it doesn't say something like that, I tend to delete them unread because I don't want to buy drugs from Canada, nor do I need my penis enlarged. That is what all the other emails are about.

I'm glad people are finding the board - sorry about the profanity thing, I needed someplace free that was easy to set up fast, and everything was ad-supported and vulgarness-less. At least this has some similar features, and I think PMs, too, though I haven't tested it out.
I hope someone from Beggars will contact me with some confirmed North American dates soon - I'm trying to plan too!
I have gotten hardly any reviews emailed to me so far - please, after posting them, copy and paste into an email for me so I know I have your permission to use them, and I can find them all. The same for these US dates - if you email them to me I will start a little 'unconfirmed' collection, and at least we will have that!

Then why have Scraps and I'll take care of you, both Subpop releases, on there? Because Beggars was the UK distributor for those, even though SubPop handled the US. I assume that is why he went on to Beggars full time, because there was already a relationship there.

beggars has disowned 'whiskey for the holy ghost' and 'the winding sheet' on both the main site and the bubblebum site linked from marklanegan.com. bizarre. quote] Beggars did not have anything to do with releasing those albums - so I guess they should label the choice as 'Beggars Discography', since it only has stuff they were involved in. I think this board has some wierd word substitution thing for known profanities

Having the official site down is a unfortunate. Having the forum down in the middle of a tour is unforgivable!
This is obviously not as high tech, but it is free, and if you are looking to hook up with folks at shows, or tell people about your experiences, at least this can serve until the official one is back. (but please still send me reviews by email at raeni@onewhiskey.com)
This is rule #2 of the TOS of this free service: "User's web site may not contain content promoting the use of illegal drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, nudity, or any other form of adult content, profanity, hate, "spam," fraud, racism, mlm, pyramid schemes, or promote any illegal activity. "
Let's see how long we actually last...

The FAQ

Post by raeni on Nov 10, 2004 20:53:59 GMT -5
Here is the requested F.A.Q. for Forum Users. This is a read-only thread, no need to reply. If you have suggestions for what to add to this list, PM me. added 08/21/09: There is a long-standing problem with this and many other forums on the internet. If you have an interest in improving your own participation in any forum, check out these articles on critiquing writing - they are handy for forums, too: www.critters.org/whathow.htmlwww.critters.org/diplomacy.htmlIs this the official Mark Lanegan Forum? No - this little BBS is an extension of the onewhiskey.com website. The official forum at marklanegan.com has been removed. Why was the official forum removed? Will it return? The answer to both is: I do not know. Wait and see. If I post something here, will it be read by anyone in the Mark Lanegan Band?As this is a publicly accessible internet site, that is always a possibility. Is there an official taping policy for Lanegan shows?None that I am aware of. Many people do tape shows, and trade them freely with other fans - whether this is appreciated or condoned I can't say. I will say that anyone attempting to sell 'bootleg' material will get the boot from this forum. If I have an article, review, or photos, should I post them here?Certainly, if you wish! Please also send them to me by email, so they can be included in the appropriate section on the onewhiskey.com website. Anything posted here but not emailed to me cannot be included on the site. Please remember to include a relevant subject line in your email, specifically to do with Lanegan, so that I can recognise your letter in my mailbox! Mail to: onewhiskey @ aol.com What if I didn't like the album or the show? Can I still post and send in my opinion?OPINIONS are always welcome - we are all entitled to them. If you feel strongly enough to want to share your view, that is fine: let us know WHY you disliked something, don't just say it sucked. Please refrain from making personal comments/attacks directed at any band members or board members - stick to the facts as you see them. Someone just posted a negative review, and I think they're stupid. Can I say so?OPINIONS are always welcome - we are all entitled to them. Let us know WHY you disagree with what someone has said, don't just say they suck. Please refrain from making personal comments/attacks directed at any band members or board members - stick to the facts as you see them. Agree to disagree, and all that. I am new to this music. How do I find information on albums, tours, etc.?Please visit the entire site at www.onewhiskey.com. A lot of people have worked hard and contributed to compiling basic discography and tour information. There are many articles on the website from the last 10 years or more, that contain some of the answers you're looking for. If you need more information, or can't find something, please do post to the forum. There are a lot of helpful folks out there. I just get cranky when no one bothers to look at the website first. Where can I find tablature so I can play the songs? There is currently no website with this information. The fine screamingtrees.org, which used to host tabs, is no longer with us. There are some on the forum who may have what you need, so feel free to ask - just be aware that this DOES come up a lot, so scroll through the topics first and see what's gone before. If you'd like to start a website to host tabs, I'd be glad to link to you. Can onewhiskey.com host my show bootleg, other large downloadable file? No. Check through previous forum topics to find others who might be able to. I have a long, drawn out private conversation to have with someone on this forum. Shall I post it?The forum is equipped with a Private Message feature - use it! If what you have to say may be of interest or is entertaining to others, go ahead and post, but try to keep topic-related posts free of clutter. They are easier to read for people in a hurry. What do we know about Mark Lanegan personally? Does he have a girlfriend? What is his shoe size? Etc.Personal information has no place on a forum about music. Will the answers affect how well you like the songs? I think not. I have a 'zine, radio show, etc. How can I get in touch with Mark Lanegan to arrange an interview?I do not know. Your best bet is to go through official channels. His record label is Beggars Banquet - www.beggars.comHave fun now.
