I don't know what I can or cannot listen to at any one time. I don't want really to hear that Honey just gets me stoned. If it helps at all, here's my take on this topic. If you listen to his entire catalog, you can hear drug references in basically every song he's contributed to writing, for himself or other projects. And I know he said in an interview somewhere that he always thought he was 'speaking to his own people', as in, those that had those same experiences, so he was surprised that other people found other things in his music. But when I listen to the songs, there are very few of them that I feel like they 'have to be' about drugs at all. You can hear the same words and find a meaning that works for you. When I hear 'honey just gets me stoned', I alternate between thinking relationship, as in a person, 'Honey', my significant other makes me feel great - or even honey as 'the good things of life' - he's dazed by the swirling buzz of life and everything going around in his head, but he sits by the window watching the swarm because the honey, the good things that still exist in the world of confusion, still makes him feel good. I tend to over-think and over-romanticize, I know, but I have always related very emotionally to his music, and I have never touched a drug. To me, none of his songs are about drugs - they CAN be, if I choose to see them that way, but they have other meaning to my particular life. Except Juarez. Can't get around that one! I know your situation is different, but maybe practicing hearing them in a different way will bring you a different level of enjoyment? It doesn't matter what the writer intended, so much as what you get out of it.

With onewhiskey.com having been sort of off the grid for a while, I guess this is a good time to bring this up - I'm really trying to keep the new site as updated as humanly possible, though I may not repeat everything from the site to the forum. I added a small box right at the top of the right-hand column now that says 'latest updates', so you can see if there's anything new right off the bat. I mention this because this project has been on the site since March 8th, and I obviously forgot to say so here! Sorry.

That Berbati's Pan show was great. There was a big, lighted snowman on the back of the stage, which was glowing all through Pete Krebs and Mike Johnson's sets. Then in typical Mark fashion, when he got on stage, they turned out all the lights - even the damn snowman!

Now that the revamped site is back, I know I am missing several of the Live CDs. If anyone has the ones I'm missing, would you please be so kind as to send me a scan of the cover, and in the email let me know the details (where it's from, track list, etc.)? I'd like to get back to having things more complete!

The new onewhiskey.com is up and running today, though depending on where you are and the pace of internet propagation, you may still see the old site for the rest of the day. I'm still working on it due to the fact that I'm just learning Wordpress, but I wanted to let everyone know that all the old information is still there. Follow the link on the right to the Archive site for all the old articles and images and reviews. I still need to add in the tour dates from 2016, should get to that soon.
Due to the fact that most people prefer to post their own show reviews either here or on their own blogs or social media pages, I decided not to try to continue soliciting them from you all. Please do still post them here, though, I know I like to read them!
Anyhow, hope you like the new site.

those official lyrics are actually from Mark, so they would be the ones to go by! Hopefully we'll get all the albums once the book comes out in June.

Any feedback from these shows? Just the odd thing here and there on my Facebook etc but nothing substantial. The shows were absolutely awesome and great fun. Only one complaint - there was NO Lanegan solo set at all in California. I believe he did do a solo set in New Orleans, and the way he was listed in CA made it seem as though he would there as well. But when they posted set times, it was Carina Round, Moby, then Afghan Whigs & Mark Lanegan. As it turned out, he sang The Lonely Night with Moby, which was amazing, then he joined Afghan Whigs for Night by Candlelight, and that was it for the second night. First night, Gutter Twins was really fun with GT and Twilight Singers songs, and a Guns 'n Roses cover with Duff McKagan. Duff played guitar for the Gutter Twins, but switched to bass for that song. Josh Homme was great to see and was being terribly funny all night. I think he spent almost less time playing than he did talking, but it was all good. Eagles of Death Metal were good, and played a cover of Moonage Daydream that was wild. Josh joined them on drums for the last song. Second night, Carina Round played first. She has a great voice and her songs were on the sad side, which is fine with me but she kept joking about how dark they were. Then it was Moby, who had a spectacular lady vocalist for most of the songs, but I didn't catch her name. He introduced Mark who came to the mic, they started the quiet music to dead silence, then Mark sang one line and everyone whooped because he sounded so damn good. After Mark sang his song with them and left the stage, Moby said, "Not to state the obvious, but that VOICE..." The Afghan Whigs were great. To be honest I never listened to them or paid attention to Greg Dulli until Mark sang on the Twilight Singers, but I found I really like Dulli and now go to see him when he plays, even though I don't own any Whigs albums. So for me it says a lot that I really loved this show, even though they played all the songs off a single album which I have never heard! Got to hang out with the 'onewhiskey' equivalent of the Whigs fans, and they all seemed like very cool people and were fun to hang with. After the last show, someone handed out printed letters which we held up that spelled out 'Viva La Rosser', which was cool. Through both shows all the performers spoke a little about Dave and seemed genuinely grateful for all the fan support for both the shows and the fund. All proceeds from merch sold at the shows went to Dave, too. If you want to donate you can do so at www.gofundme.com/daverosserHere is the Moby song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwa-w6s9HF8

they did go on sale, but not until like 10:20 or so. I don't know why, but it was pissing me off because I couldn't tell if I couldn't connect or if it was ticketmaster.

A 3rd show added. Los Angeles Teragram Ballroom, Dec 13. Eagles of Death Metal, Josh Homme, Duff McKagan and The Gutter Twins to perform. Well hell. As much as I want to go to the other show, I want to go to this one more.

I think most of the time when he's been asked to explain lyrics he himself has said it's not up to him to say what they mean, he leaves it up to the listener. I think though that I can compartmentalize - what something means to me can stay that way, even if I hear it's about something else. Sometimes I hear a song I like and attach a meaning to it, and find out later I had the lyrics all wrong - but I'll still hear the 'wrong' words when I listen again, because that's what that song is to me!

Dave Rosser has played many shows with Mark, as well as with Afghan Whigs and other bands. For those who didn't see this on the Afghan Whigs FaceBook: Your attention please. It is with a heavy heart that The Afghan Whigs are announcing two special performances of their classic album Black Love in its entirety in New Orleans and Los Angeles along with performances from Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, Morning 40 Federation, King James & The Special Men C.C. Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis, Moby and Carina Round. Long-time The Afghan Whigs, The Gutter Twins and The Twilight Singers guitarist Dave Rosser was recently diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer. “Dave Rosser has been my close friend and bandmate for over a decade now,” Greg Dulli commented. “By doing these shows for him we hope to ease any financial stress he may face as he pursues treatment to combat his illness. 100% of the proceeds from these shows will go to his medical care. I’m hopeful that folks will come out and show their support for Dave who will be performing with us.” The New Orleans show will take place at The Civic Theatre on Saturday December 10th and feature performances from: The Afghan Whigs, Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, Morning 40 Federation, King James & The Special Men, and C.C. Adcock & The Lafayette Marquis along with special guests. The Los Angeles show will take place on December 14th at The Teragram Ballroom featuring sets from: The Afghan Whigs, Mark Lanegan, Moby and Carina Round. I Am the Wolf will be published in June 13, 2017 for Da Capo Press (288 pages) “as scratchy as a three-day beard yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather,” This is at least more fun than anything 'whiskey' or 'gravel' related!

As soon as I have some time to check, I will see if there's anything blocking me. I have a few other sites I update for people, all FTP through port 21, and they all work fine. I don't think I have any firewalls, but if anything I'm connected to has some sort of auto setting, it's possible. I'll have to figure out where to look!

So who is going to make it to this one? And is anyone meeting beforehand for food or anything? I'm not sure if I've ever been to the Roxy before, but it seems like there'd be places to go around there.

In case anyone has been wondering why I've become a deadbeat web person...
onewhiskey.com has been graciously carried along on the web for free all this time, and continues to be. However, my hosting company changed servers several months ago, and they moved the site along with everything else. For some reason I can no longer get in to upload changes to the site. They have tested and tested it, and find nothing wrong on their end.
If anyone knows about these things, please feel free to contact me because any advice would be great. The new server uses SFTP, and they asked me to use port 22. I have a little FTP program, so I changed the setting on that to port 22. When I try to access the site, it just spins and spins and spins, and finally disconnects. Is there some other setting on my computer I have to change to make 'port 22' available?
I just wanted to let you all know it's not that I don't care anymore - it's simply that I can't get in and I thought it would be resolved by now. As some of you know I have several jobs, and I am literally gone from my computer and at work from 4:40AM until after 7:00PM, and I work 7 days a week. So my time to problem solve is really cut by the fact that I can't stay up working on it because I need to get up at 3:45AM.
I could definitely use some advice on this SFTP thing. And a new job, with better pay and shorter hours!

I'm trying to find out. Or you can just look on onewhiskey.com, where apparently the venues have become cities and the cities venues. My mind isn't right...I'll try to fix it later!

Good news/bad news for me. Got accepted into a fairly 'big deal' horse competition, limited to 12 and my horse and I were selected! Bad news: such things cost money to do, money to travel with a horse, and money to stay there for 4 days. I will have to hope this goes on sale sometime AFTER the holidays!
